Indonesian media has raised arguments and expectations that the U22 Indonesian team will successfully defend the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games, taking place in Thailand from December 3 to 18.

According to the draw results, the representative of the "thousand islands" country is in group C with Myanmar, Philippines and Singapore. These are opponents that are considered to be able to cause some difficulties for Indonesia right from the group stage.

Coach Indra Sjafri's team has started training in Jakarta since the beginning of October, and has had two friendly matches with U22 India, losing 1-2 and drawing 1-1. However, Coach Sjafri still expressed great confidence in the quality of the current squad with many excellent young players playing regularly in the domestic league.

In the first training session, coach Indra Sjafri called up 32 players, including four players of Indonesian origin, currently playing abroad, including Adrian Wibowo (Los Angeles FC), Tim Geypens (FC Emmen), Dion Markx (TOP Oss) and Ivar Jenner (FC Utrecht).

Indonesian media and experts believe U22 Indonesia will win SEA Games 33

"Many other faces who have also played for the national team such as Hokky Caraka, Rafael Struick or Muhammad Ferarri also participated, creating uniformity and depth for the squad" - Bola newspaper commented.

In addition, coach Rasiman Rasiman, who led the Indonesian youth teams to win the AFF U19 2013 and AFF U22 2019 championships, believes that this depth of force will help coach Sjafri win the championship.

"That means it's not a coincidence because he has knowledge of Southeast Asian football. I think his chances of success are quite high. To return home with a SEA Games gold medal again this year" - Coach Rasiman expressed.

From the 2023 SEA Games, men's football will only allow players under 22 years old, helping teams avoid relying on overage players. Coach Rasiman believes that it was the equality in age and competitive spirit that helped Indonesia win the previous SEA Games.

With a young force and the guidance of experienced coach Indra Sjafri, a three-time regional champion, Indonesian football has every reason to dream of a second consecutive gold medal at the SEA Games.
