Stocks next week: Investors note this after the "stormy" week of VN-Index

(NLĐO) – Capital is predicted to shift towards technology stocks, Viettel, and real estate stocks – stocks that have previously experienced sharp declines.

The stock market last week was extremely volatile with a historic drop - losing nearly 95 points (more than 5%) with a series of stocks hitting the floor. Many investors are still sweating as the accumulated results of the previous 1-2 months were wiped out.

VN-Index recovered in the last sessions of the week and closed at 1,683 points, down 2.77% compared to the previous week, falling far below the psychological level of 1,700 points. Meanwhile, VN30 index ended the week down 1.65% to 1,944 points.

Money is shifting towards technology stocks.

The stock market was in a correction trend last week, with downward pressure spreading across many sectors. Many investors' accounts were also "red". Many investors who had "hit the peak" when the VN-Index was at 1,790 points in the previous 2 weeks are now suffering heavy losses, and many are worried that they may be called on margin (required to deposit more money into their accounts to meet safety ratios).

According to the reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, the cash flow tends to shift from stocks and groups of stocks that have had a good growth period such as securities, banks, seafood, seaports, construction... to technology, telecommunications, and retail stocks - which have been adjusted down before and have positive business results in the third quarter of 2025. Foreign investors have been net sellers for the 14th consecutive week, with a value of more than VND 4,300 billion on the HOSE floor this week.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc, an analyst at Pinetree Securities, the Vietnamese stock market experienced one of its most volatile periods in months last week. Following the announcement by the Government Inspectorate of a series of violations in the bond issuance activities of many banks and businesses, investor sentiment became pessimistic, causing the VN-Index to have its sharpest decline in history – losing more than 94 points in a single trading session.

Stocks are expected to continue to recover next week.

"The positive point is that the market quickly showed strong bottom-fishing demand. VN-Index showed clear signs of recovery. The return of cash flow focused mainly on technology and real estate stocks and some individual codes with their own supporting stories. The most prominent wasFPT stock, when it suddenly increased strongly after a long period of adjustment, along with VTP and CTR stocks of the Viettel family. Notably, the Vingroup group also showed a positive reaction when VIC even surpassed its historical peak in the last session of the week, while VHM and VRE stopped falling and recovered slightly" - Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc said.

According to experts, there is a significant shift in cash flow: banking, securities and large-cap (bluechip) groups have temporarily cooled down, while speculative cash flow has shifted to technology, Viettel , real estate and chemical groups after the crash at the beginning of the week.

"I've also noticed a shift in capital towards technology stocks. My current portfolio is mainly real estate and securities, but because many of those stocks are losing money, I can't sell them to diversify," lamented Nam Hoang (an investor in Ho Chi Minh City).

What should investors do if they accidentally "chase the top" of stocks?

For investors who have "hit the peak" of stocks and are currently losing money, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, General Director of FinSuccess Investment Joint Stock Company, believes that the current decline of the market is just a technical adjustment, temporary - the decrease amplitude is less than 10%. Therefore, short-term investments can lead to temporary losses - especially when the market fluctuates very quickly and strongly in one session.

"Investors should not try to guess the peak or bottom, but should maintain a reasonable portfolio according to their risk appetite. I always have stocks in my portfolio, because investment efficiency comes from choosing the right stocks, not from predicting the market correctly. The proportion of stocks is about 80% or more, and only keep a maximum of 20% in cash even when the market is pessimistic. The important thing is to choose stocks with good fundamentals, benefiting from industry trends and macro policies, to ensure sustainable investment efficiency" - Mr. Trung said.
