In his nightly address, Mr Zelensky claimed that there was “preliminary evidence that the Russians have begun to use North Korean soldiers in attacks, in significant numbers”. According to the Ukrainian leader, the Russians have put North Korean soldiers into integrated units and used them in operations in Kursk, where Ukraine has been conducting attacks since August.
Mr. Zelensky noted that North Korean soldiers could be used in other frontline areas and that the losses of this group of soldiers were significant.
In November, President Zelensky said 11,000 North Korean soldiers were present in the Kursk region and had suffered “losses.”
According to him, taken by surprise by the attack in Kursk, Russia continued to regain territory, stopping Ukraine's advance and quickly sending reinforcements to the region.
A Ukrainian military source told AFP last month that Kiev still controlled 800 square kilometres of the Kursk region, down from a previous claim of control of nearly 1,400 square kilometres.

Ukraine has targeted fuel depots in Russia in retaliation for Moscow's air strikes that damaged the country's power grid.
The Ukrainian military confirmed its forces had attacked a large oil depot in Stalnoi Kon, about 165 km from Russian territory.
One of the largest stations in Russia, it serves Moscow's " military -industrial complex" supplying the army, the General Staff said.
Oryol region governor Andrei Klychkov said on Telegram that a fire broke out at “a fuel infrastructure facility” in Stalnoi Kon after a “large-scale drone attack”.
Firefighters appeared to have the fire under control, he said, but local residents were advised to close their windows and stay indoors.
