Ung Hoang Phuc sings bolero for the first time, performs without taking a salary

(Dan Tri) - Trying his hand at bolero for the first time in the program "Love Bolero", Ung Hoang Phuc surprised the audience when he sang a duet with Hai Gia Liu, drove himself to record and film without receiving any pay.

As a singer associated with youth music hits such as: It's Better Like This, People Say, Because Someone Left... Ung Hoang Phuc was once the youthful voice of the 8X and 9X generations.

Specializing in ballads and pop music, he is famous for his lyrical and romantic ballads and was also a member of the band 1088, making his mark in the Vietnamese pop music scene in the early 2000s.

During his career, the male singer experienced a major incident when he suffered from a herniated disc, forcing him to stop singing for many years. During that difficult time, he had to sell his house and car for treatment. His wife - former model Kim Cuong - was always by his side to take care of him, becoming his spiritual support to help him overcome his illness and return to music .

Therefore, Ung Hoang Phuc's sudden appearance at Tinh Bolero - a playground for singers passionate about lyrical music - made the audience curious. In the program, he was not only a guest performer but also took on the role of assistant director for contestant Hai Gia Liu, a Tiktoker known for his rustic, close voice.

Behind-the-scenes footage of Ung Hoang Phuc and Hai Gia Liu’s practice was shared on social media and quickly attracted attention. Audiences were excited about a young singer “crossing over” to bolero.

Explaining the special appearance of Ung Hoang Phuc in Tinh Bolero , contestant Hai Gia Liu revealed that it was a “fate” that happened many years ago. When he was working in the media for a film project produced by Ung Hoang Phuc (with Hung Ali), he once sang randomly and the male singer expressed his delight.

“Mr. Phuc once told me that I had an emotional voice, if I had the chance, I should try standing on stage. I was just joking that if I went to the competition, Mr. Phuc would have to support me.

Unexpectedly, a few years later, that joke became a reality. When I was invited to participate in Tinh Bolero, I asked my senior to support the duet competition and he agreed," Hai Gia Liu shared.

According to Hai Gia Liu, it was his affection and respect for his former collaborators that made the male singer "break the rules" and try a genre of music he had never sung before.

When Hai Gia Liu asked Ung Hoang Phuc what song he wanted to perform, he just smiled and said: "This is your competition, I'm just supporting you so I'll follow you. You can choose whatever song you want to sing, as long as it's the best for your performance."

Despite his busy work schedule, Ung Hoang Phuc still drove himself to the studio to record, practice and participate in filming. What is special is that the male singer did not receive any salary for this appearance, simply because he wanted to support his juniors in the profession.
