This evening (October 28th), the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), represented by its President Nualphan Lamsam (commonly known as Madam Pang), sent a letter of apology to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) regarding the mix-up of national flags during the draw for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship.
According to information from the VFF, in her apology letter, Madam Pang wrote: “On behalf of the FAT, I would like to express my deepest regret and sincerest apologies for the unfortunate incident involving the incorrect placement of the Vietnamese flag during the draw for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, held in Thailand on October 28th.”

“This completely fails to reflect the respect and appreciation that FAT has for all its member federations, as well as their national symbols. We are fully aware of the seriousness of this error and take full responsibility for the oversight that has occurred.”
"FAT sincerely apologizes to the VFF, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF), and all relevant parties for this incident," Madam Pang added in the apology letter sent to the VFF.
The head of Thailand's football governing body affirmed that FAT immediately implemented corrective measures, reviewed and strengthened event organization procedures to ensure that such mistakes would never happen again.
Madam Pang herself also expressed hope that she would have the opportunity to personally apologize to VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan in the near future.
Madam Pang expressed: “The Football Association of Thailand and I personally deeply appreciate the continued understanding and support of VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan, and we reaffirm our firm commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and respect in all AFF events hosted by FAT.”
Earlier this afternoon, at the draw for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship held in Thailand, a serious error occurred. When the name of the Vietnamese U19 futsal team appeared, the host organizers mistakenly displayed the flag of another country.
Almost immediately, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) reacted strongly. The VFF sent a letter of protest to the AFF and FAT.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) expressed its view that this mistake could harm Vietnam's image and negatively impact regional unity, and called on the AFF to clarify the cause and implement stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
By evening of the same day, the Football Association of Thailand had to publicly apologize to the VFF and to Vietnamese football.
