December 14th concluded the Vietnamese karate team's participation in the SEA Games 33 with a gold medal in the women's team Kumite event. In the final against host nation Thailand, the four athletes, Dinh Thi Huong, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly, Nguyen Thi Thu, and Hoang Thi My Tam, displayed great skill and secured a convincing victory, bringing home the final gold medal for Vietnamese karate.

Notably, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly, the younger sister of star fighter Nguyen Thi Ngoan, was chosen to replace her injured sister and performed exceptionally well in the decisive match.

Facing their long-standing rivals Thailand, the Vietnamese female martial artists took a proactive approach. In the opening round, Dieu Ly was entrusted by the coaching staff with the task of being the first to compete.

In her SEA Games debut, the female martial artist delivered an outstanding performance, striking confidently, controlling the match, and counter-attacking effectively to secure the victory, giving Vietnam a 1-0 lead over the host nation.

Faced with the skillful fighting style of the Vietnamese female boxers, their opponents had to struggle hard to score even a few points in the two rounds.

Following in the footsteps of Dieu Ly's victory, Vietnamese fighter My Tam entered the ring amidst the enthusiastic atmosphere of the home crowd. Leaving the pressure behind, the Vietnamese fighter competed calmly, controlled the match, and continuously increased her lead in points.

My Tam emerged victorious, allowing Vietnamese karate to close out the final with a 2-0 score without needing a third round.

When the final whistle blew, the Vietnamese karate girls embraced each other and the coaching staff in the joy of victory. Head coach of the Vietnamese Karate team, Mr. Duong Hoang Long, praised the female athletes for their outstanding performance, especially in an event where Vietnam has won numerous SEA Games and Asian championships, where defending their titles always comes with considerable pressure.

Overwhelmed with joy after her victory, Dieu Ly couldn't hide her happiness. The young female martial artist kept smiling and quickly called her coach, who had always been by her side on her journey to the gold medal, to share the good news.
According to coach Duong Hoang Long, before the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnam's key karate fighter suffered an injury and was unable to compete. However, her sister and teammates performed excellently, fulfilling their assigned tasks completely.

The gold medal in the women's team kumite event is the sixth gold medal for the Vietnamese karate team at the 33rd SEA Games. Before departing, the coaching staff set a target of winning 3 to 4 gold medals, but the athletes far exceeded expectations with 6 gold medals, successfully fulfilling the professional target.

Vietnamese karate became one of the martial arts teams to surpass its performance target at this Games. This victory also helped Vietnamese karate maintain its number one position in the women's team kumite event at three consecutive SEA Games: 31, 32, and 33.
