The match was very tight right from the opening whistle. Both U20 Uruguay and U20 Italy had a hard time finding a way to break through the opponent's defense. The score was 0-0 until the end of the first half.

In the second half, the match was still quite balanced. In the 81st minute, referee Glenn Nyberg showed a red card to Italy U20 midfielder Matteo Prati, after a foul. However, he changed the decision to a yellow card after reviewing VAR.

Five minutes later, Luciano Rodriguez jumped high to head the ball into the net to open the score 1-0 for U20 Uruguay after a chaotic situation in the U20 Italy penalty area. Referee Glenn Nyberg had to confer with the VAR team for a long time before finally recognizing the goal.

Italy U20 found it difficult to accept this defeat, but they could not score in the remaining time of the match. The 1-0 score brought victory to Uruguay U20, making them the champion of the 2023 U20 World Cup.

In the third place match, U20 Israel defeated U20 Korea with a score of 3-1. This is the first time U20 Israel has participated in the U20 World Cup and the Middle Eastern team surprised everyone with a third place finish.

Although the Italian U20 team finished second, Cesare Casadei still won the double - the Adidas Golden Ball (Best Player of the Tournament) and the Adidas Golden Boot (Top Scorer). Initially, the 20-year-old midfielder from Chelsea was not expected by many when he arrived in Argentina, but he was always the center of attention of the tournament. With 7 goals and 2 assists, Cesare Casadei evoked the image of superstars such as Diego Maradona, Adriano, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Paul Pogba.

Cesare Casadei also became the sixth non-striker to win the Adidas Golden Ball, and surpassed both Paolo Rossi and Toto Schillaci to become the Italian player with the most goals in a single FIFA tournament.

The Adidas Silver Ball was awarded to Alan Matturro of Uruguay U20, while Lee Seungwon of Korea Republic U20 received the Adidas Bronze Ball.

The Adidas Golden Glove (Best Goalkeeper) was awarded to Italy U20 goalkeeper Sebastiano Desplanches.

With 5 goals, Marcos Leonardo of Brazil U20 received the Adidas Silver Boot. Oscar Cortes of Colombia U20 received the Adidas Bronze Boot, with 4 goals.

FIFA has described the U20 World Cup as "the tournament of future superstars". Superstars such as Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Paul Pogba have all won the tournament. Rising star Erling Haaland was also the top scorer at the 2019 U20 World Cup, playing for Norway's U20 team.
