Vietnamese Committee received First Class Labor Medal

The President decided to award the First Class Labor Medal to the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Decision No. 1524/QD-CTN dated December 23, 2024.

The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese received the First Class Labor Medal for its outstanding achievements, contributions to the country's economic and social development, humanitarian and charitable activities, strengthening the great national unity bloc, supporting the overseas Vietnamese community to stabilize their lives, integrate into the local society, turn to their homeland, and at the same time preserve and promote the national cultural identity. Previously, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese was honored to be awarded many noble titles by the Party and State such as the First Class Independence Medal (1st time, 1999), the First Class Labor Medal (1st time, 2004), the Ho Chi Minh Medal (2009), and the First Class Independence Medal (2nd time, 2019).

At the event, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister , Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son presented certificates of merit from the Minister to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in work with overseas Vietnamese.

Also on the morning of December 25, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese held a workshop on “65 years of connecting overseas Vietnamese with the country (1959-2024) and 20 years of implementing Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW of the Politburo on work with overseas Vietnamese (2004-2024)”.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that the conference took place at a meaningful time when the whole nation is striving to fulfill the goals of the 13th National Party Congress, creating a solid foundation to enter a new era - the era of strong growth of the Vietnamese people. He emphasized: “2024 marks an important milestone when Resolution 36 turns 20 years old.

It can be said that Resolution No. 36 is a document of historical significance, of special importance, of long-term strategic significance, demonstrating the Party's innovative and breakthrough thinking on the role and importance of the Vietnamese community abroad, both imbued with the tradition of humanity and tolerance of our nation, and promoting the spirit of great national solidarity, with the slogan: 'Overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part and an important resource of the national community, contributing to strengthening the cooperative and friendly relations between our country and other countries'.

At the workshop, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, shared: “The past 20 years have witnessed many returns of children far from home. The emotional tears of those returning after many years away are vivid proof of the strong love for the homeland in every Vietnamese person, regardless of the reason for leaving.”

She also emphasized the growing role of the Vietnamese business community abroad, with total remittances from 1993 to 2023 reaching about 230 billion USD, equivalent to the FDI capital disbursed in the same period.

“It can be affirmed that Resolution 36 has created a major turning point, marking a comprehensive change in the work of overseas Vietnamese. This is a document of profound significance and continues to be a guideline for future activities,” Ms. Hang affirmed.
