The Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 works in An Giang

On the afternoon of October 30, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 Dang Van Dung led the delegation to work with the Standing Office of the Steering Committee 389 of An Giang province on the fight against smuggling in An Giang province.

From September 30, 2014 to September 30, 2025, the Provincial Market Management Department handled nearly 2,700 cases of trading in smuggled cigarettes; the total amount of money collected to the State budget was more than 8 billion VND. Over 653,000 packs of cigarettes were destroyed.

The XX Region Customs Branch seized and handled 80 cases, with evidence of more than 39,700 packs of foreign cigarettes of all kinds; most of the seizures were of ownerless goods. In 2021, Khanh Binh Border Gate Customs seized and handled 429 kg of tobacco shreds.

The provincial police have inspected and arrested over 13,300 cases, involving nearly 6,000 subjects, confiscating over 11.4 million packs of smuggled cigarettes of all kinds. Criminal handling: Prosecuted and investigated 456 cases, 555 defendants for crimes of trading, storing, and transporting prohibited goods; handled administrative violations of over 57 billion VND. An Giang Border Guards arrested over 1,100 cases, 206 subjects, confiscated over 1.2 million packs of cigarettes of all kinds...

According to the Steering Committee 389 of An Giang province, the current difficulty is the wide scope of management, including border areas by road, river, sea and island... The Steering Committee 389 of the province assessed that the situation of smuggling, transporting and trading of smuggled cigarettes is still complicated.

An Giang Provincial Steering Committee 389 proposed solutions, such as: Continuing to promptly implement directive documents of the Government and the National Steering Committee 389; synchronously deploying professional solutions, strictly controlling goods circulating in the market; strengthening coordination between functional forces to prevent and combat smuggling and trade fraud...

Comrade Dang Van Dung highly appreciated the results achieved by An Giang province in the work of preventing and combating cigarette smuggling. He agreed with the solutions proposed by the Steering Committee of An Giang province and requested to continue strictly implementing the directions of the Government, the National Steering Committee 389, etc., in order to effectively carry out the work of preventing and combating cigarette smuggling.
