On the morning of May 10, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong in collaboration with Vietnam Railways Corporation held a ceremony to announce Hai Phong Station as a "Tourist Destination" and launch the high-quality train "Hoa Phuong Do". The event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong's liberation (May 13, 1955 - May 13, 2025).
Recognition of Hai Phong station tourist destination and opening of "Hoa Phuong Do" train
Hai Phong Railway Station - one of the oldest railway stations in Vietnam, with its distinctive French architecture and deep historical imprint - has now been officially recognized as a cultural and tourist destination. This place once marked the train journey carrying President Ho Chi Minh from Hai Phong back to Hanoi after the Fontainebleau Conference (France) in 1946 - an event that became a milestone in the history of Vietnam's railway industry.
Hai Phong Station was built in 1902, at the same time as the Hai Phong - Hanoi railway started, designed by the French.
Hai Phong Station is located on Km 101+750 of the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, classified as a grade I station of the railway industry. Like the Hai Phong Opera House, Hai Phong Museum or some other administrative headquarters in the Port City, Hai Phong Station bears the strong architectural imprint of the French.
After more than 122 years of history, Hai Phong Station still retains its ancient beauty with bold French architecture. With ancient French architecture, Hai Phong Station is not only a transportation transit point but also a work with deep historical, cultural and artistic values associated with the formation and development of the Port City.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong, the decision to recognize Hai Phong Station as a tourist destination of Hai Phong City not only opens up new opportunities for tourism development, but also enhances the cultural heritage value of the railway industry. Hai Phong City, with its long history and important role in the country's economy, has become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
"The event of Hai Phong Station becoming the 12th "Tourist Destination" of the city will promote the value of the relic, gradually building Hai Phong Station not only as a place to pick up and drop off train passengers but also as a cultural and tourist destination, the starting point for the journey to discover the beauty and famous culinary quintessence of the Red Flamboyant City" - Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai said.
With the aim of meeting the increasing demands of passengers, Vietnam Railways Corporation has comprehensively renovated and upgraded passenger cars with luxurious interiors and modern amenities such as semi-automatic doors, LED screens, free wifi, and typical images of the Port City.
Notably, this is the first time the railway industry has put into operation a 34-seat VIP carriage, with an Indochinese-style interior. The 56-seat carriage is equipped with new-generation seats that can rotate 180 degrees, so passengers no longer have to worry about sitting in the opposite direction when the train is running. The carriages are all equipped with spacious hand-washing areas, modern and clean toilets. In addition, the train also has standard 64-seat carriages, applying flexible fares to meet the diverse travel needs of passengers.
