More than a welfare policy, this is a journey to spread the morality of “remembering the source of water” to show gratitude and sharing. Each newly completed house not only helps families with preferential policies have a place to live but is also a vivid testament to humanity and the aspiration to build warm homes of gratitude on the affectionate border land of Lao Cai .

Carrying the legacy of war, war invalid Nguyen Trong Tai, Tan Tien village, Bao Ai commune, still cannot believe that he is living in a new, spacious and clean house. He said, this is a “real dream” - a dream that for many years, he only dared to imagine on rainy nights, when the wind blew through the old corrugated iron roof.
On the day he received the keys to his new house, Mr. Tai could not hide his emotions, his eyes filled with tears: “The dream of having a solid house, which I thought was just a dream, has now come true! I am very grateful to the Party, the State and the people. Now that I have a house, I can rest assured in my old age, and I no longer worry every time I hear the sound of rain.”

Mr. Tai's house with an area of nearly 100 square meters was completed from the 60 million VND support program for people with meritorious services of the province, along with the family's savings and the help of neighbors. In the pale yellow afternoon light, the new house is like a symbol of gratitude and humanity - where the humane policies of the Party and State are materialized through joy and happiness in each cozy home.
Like Mr. Tai, 1/4 disabled veteran Nong Thien Mac in Na Ken - Nam Tro village, Lam Thuong commune inaugurated a new stilt house in July 2025, after many years of waiting. Having fought in the B4, B5 battlefields of Quang Tri - Thua Thien, carrying many war scars, the former soldier never succumbed to fate.

Last May 2025, he received 60 million VND from the State, along with dozens of working days from villagers to help build the house. Now, the new wooden stilt house stands out against the blue sky, the roof is as sturdy as the old soldier's determination and steadfastness.
“This is not just a house, but also the affection of the Party, the State and the people for us - the soldiers of the past. Having a home, I feel like I have more strength, live a happier and more useful life,” Mr. Mac confided.

Mr. Tai and Mr. Mac are just two of hundreds of families of people with revolutionary contributions and martyrs' relatives in Lao Cai province that have received support to build new and repair houses in 2025. Each completed house is a complete joy, showing the deep gratitude and care of the Party, State, local authorities and community for those who sacrificed and contributed to the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
From lowlands to highlands, gratitude shelters are built one after another, bringing with them the warmth of human love and deep gratitude, illuminating the morality of "remembering the source of the water you drink" in everyday life.

Each new house is not only a place to live but also a humane story, a journey of community cooperation. In a mountainous province like Lao Cai, the terrain is fragmented, transportation is difficult, and the transportation of materials and construction organization face many obstacles. Many households with meritorious services are old, weak, and no longer able to work, but no one is left behind.
From village cadres, unions to ordinary people, everyone contributed: some supported the labor day, some carried wood, some brought cement, some helped with meals for the construction team. The sweat of the community mixed with mortar and bricks to build a warm house of gratitude.

The spirit of "helping each other" spreads like a warm source, touching everyone's hearts, becoming a stronger bond connecting the community than ever.
Mr. Vang A Ninh in Khau De village, Hanh Phuc commune, shared simply but deeply: “If we are healthy, we will help. Everyone in the village who has wood will contribute wood, and everyone who has labor will contribute labor. The house belongs to you, but the joy belongs to the whole village.”
Those simple words encapsulate the sentiments of the people of the highlands - where all joys are shared and all hardships are shouldered together. The joint effort not only helps reduce the material burden, but is also a priceless source of spiritual encouragement, helping families of those with meritorious services feel warmer and more confident in life.

Implementing the policy of eliminating temporary houses for people with meritorious services, Lao Cai determined that this is not only a social security task but also an act of gratitude, with profound political and social significance.
In 2025, Lao Cai province will complete 546 houses (273 newly built houses, 273 repaired houses) for households with revolutionary contributions and martyrs' relatives, with a total cost of more than 24.5 billion VND from the central budget, provincial budget, socialized sources and the Gratitude Fund.
During the implementation process, the province especially values the sustainability of each project, ensuring that each new roof is not only solid and safe but also in accordance with local customs and practices.

The housing support policy for people with meritorious services does not only stop at helping them have stable housing, but also shows the deep gratitude of the Party, State and People to those who have sacrificed and contributed to the country. What we always worry about is not only completing the target, but also how to make each house truly bring lasting happiness to the beneficiaries. Therefore, the province pays special attention to quality and design suitable to the terrain and cultural conditions of each region; at the same time, promoting socialization and mobilizing people to create a movement of gratitude, spreading the morality of "remembering the source of drinking water" widely.

Each house handed over is a "red address" of gratitude, the crystallization of the drastic and synchronous direction from the Central to local levels and the cooperation of the whole society.
Lao Cai strictly implements Decision 21/2024/QD-TTg, ensuring that each house is built according to standards, suitable to natural conditions and local culture, and especially sustainable and safe. Inspection, supervision and acceptance work is carried out strictly and transparently, so that every penny of support goes to the right recipients.
More importantly, each completed home is the result of a journey of sowing seeds of love, cultivating gratitude and sharing happiness.
These houses connect the past with the present, spreading the morality of “remembering the source of water when drinking” on the borderland. There, people with meritorious services can settle down and be warmed by the care of the Party, the State and the care of the community. This is also the way Lao Cai cultivates the happiness index for its people and realizes the aspiration of a “green, harmonious, unique and happy” province.
