The light of knowledge at the border of the Fatherland
In recent years, implementing the Party and State's policy on arranging and planning the network of schools and classrooms, the education sector has made efforts to synchronously deploy nationwide, aiming at the goal of streamlining, efficiency and improving the quality of teaching and learning. However, in mountainous areas, remote areas, especially border communes, maintaining and arranging separate schools is still a challenging problem.
The terrain is divided, transportation is difficult, and frequent floods and rains cause isolation, making the journey to school difficult for many students in border areas. In many villages, temporary classrooms, tables and chairs made from forest wood, and old corrugated iron roofs still "hold" the children to class every day with determination and faith.
Teacher LVT in a border commune of Thanh Hoa province shared: "Sometimes we have to teach a class with three levels combined, the classroom is only big enough for a few rows of desks, but the students are still diligent, still come to class despite the rain and cold." Those simple classes have preserved the letters, preserved the faith, but also raised urgent demands for a new educational model that is safer, more sustainable and fairer for the children of our compatriots in the border areas of the Fatherland.

Faced with that reality, the implementation of Conclusion Notice No. 81-TB/TW dated July 18, 2025 of the Politburo and Resolution No. 298/NQ-CP dated September 26, 2025 of the Government on the policy of investing in building schools in border communes has opened up a strategic direction.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction of schools in Si Pa Phin commune (Dien Bien province) and Na Ngoi inter-level boarding school (Nghe An province), General Secretary To Lam emphasized that investing in building schools in border areas is a major policy with profound political, humanistic and strategic significance. This is not only to create better learning conditions for ethnic minority children, but also to improve the lives of people in border areas, consolidate the "people's hearts and minds", firmly protect the national sovereignty from the roots - from the people, from the community attached to the land, the forests, the borders and landmarks of the Fatherland.
Recently, the Politburo has assigned the Government Party Committee to lead and direct ministries, branches and localities to synchronously build and strive to complete 100 new and renovated schools by 2025, as a premise to replicate the model of multi-level boarding schools for ethnic minorities in 248 land border communes. This is a step that demonstrates the long-term vision of the Party and State in human development, promoting the strength of border areas, combining economic development with strengthening national defense and security.
The government is determined to deploy and spread the light of knowledge to the border.
Since the beginning of September, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of many inter-level boarding schools in border communes, such as Bat Mot School (Thanh Hoa), Tay Giang School (Quang Binh)...
In particular, on November 9, 2025, at the main bridge point of Yen Khuong Primary and Secondary Boarding School (Thanh Hoa), along with 137 direct bridges and 71 online bridges across the country, the Prime Minister emphasized the profound strategic and humanistic significance of education in border areas.
The Prime Minister affirmed: At the border of the Fatherland, education is not only the cause of cultivating people but also the foundation of people's hearts and the foundation of trust.
“If we want the border to be secure, the people must be at peace; if we want the people to be at peace, the children in the border areas must be educated. Where knowledge is available, confidence spreads. Every student who goes to school is a 'little soldier' on the knowledge front, contributing to protecting the Fatherland with intelligence and personality,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Under the close direction of the Government, planning, capital allocation, design and construction work were carried out urgently and synchronously. Localities mobilized diverse resources, combining the state budget with socialization, ensuring practicality and efficiency, avoiding formality and dispersion. The groundbreaking ceremony at 71 locations became a festival of trust, solidarity and social responsibility.
At the event, the Prime Minister requested ministries, branches, localities and construction units to concentrate highly, ensure progress, quality, safety and transparency; complete by August 2026 at the latest to serve the new school year 2026-2027.
All levels and sectors must closely follow the reality, remove difficulties, and supervise the construction process in the spirit of "for beloved students, for compatriots in border areas". Each newly built school, according to the Prime Minister, is "a work of intelligence and heart, of the spirit of serving the people"; a vivid demonstration of the strong leadership of the Politburo and the Government, along with the participation of ministries, sectors, localities and the consensus and response of the people.
The Prime Minister sent a message to the border students: “The new schools are a gift from the Fatherland, a symbol of faith, love and hope. I hope you will study hard, practice, preserve national identity, and nurture great dreams and aspirations. Knowledge is soft power, the foundation of patriotism and self-reliance.”
Up to now, 28 inter-level boarding schools in many border provinces such as Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Tay Ninh... have been started to build. Not only are they educational facilities, each school is also a "soft landmark" at the border - contributing to maintaining and fostering trust, improving people's knowledge, creating a solid foundation for socio-economic development and consolidating the national defense posture at the border of the Fatherland.

For a learning society at the Fatherland's border
These days, the atmosphere of groundbreaking new schools in the border areas is very special. Throughout the schools, there is a cheerful laughter mixed with the excitement of teachers, students and villagers. Everyone shares the same belief: in just a few months, children in the border areas will be able to study in spacious schools, with food, accommodation, playgrounds, libraries, and subject classrooms - things that seem like luxuries in the wilderness.
Teacher Le Thi Thuy, Yen Khuong Primary School (Thanh Hoa), emotionally shared: “We are very grateful to the Party and State for their attention to the cause of education in mountainous areas. This is a great source of encouragement for teachers to feel secure in their work, and for students to have better learning conditions.”

Lo Bao Ngoc, a student at Yen Khuong Secondary School, said with a bright smile: “I hope the new school will be completed soon so I can have a place to live and not have to walk far. I want to become a teacher in my village in the future.”
Lo Xuan Keo, from the same school, dreams of becoming a border guard to "study and protect his village at the same time."

That simple wish is a vivid proof of the enduring vitality of education - a light that never goes out whether on the mountain top or at the border post.
For the people, each newly built school is a source of happiness. Ms. Luong Thi Thuy, a resident of Yen Khuong commune, shared: "Despite the unfavorable weather, people still come to contribute labor and effort to clear the site, hoping that the construction units will start soon so that their children can study properly."

Ms. Le Thi Tham believes: "When there is a new school, children will be able to study properly, gain knowledge, and have stable jobs to escape poverty and change their lives."
Not only teachers and parents, but also border guards and commune police officers were excited. For them, each border student was a “little soldier”, joining hands to protect the country’s borders with knowledge, patriotism and will to succeed.
Building a system of multi-level boarding schools for ethnic minorities in border communes not only ensures equity in education, but is also a strategic investment for the future. Each new school that springs up is a “fortress of knowledge”, contributing to firmly protecting national sovereignty and security from the roots - from the people and from the hearts of the people.

Moreover, this policy affirms the determination of the Party and State in building a learning society for all people, where all children - whether in the plains or border areas, whether Kinh or ethnic minorities - have equal, complete and humane access to knowledge.
From the first bricks of the inter-level boarding schools, the belief in a sustainable future of learning is being lit. At the border of the Fatherland, the light of knowledge is the most durable "soft milestone", protecting the border with knowledge, with aspiration and with the faith of people attached to the land, the forest, and the country.
100 schools - 248 border communes - 1 common goal: Not letting border children stand outside the door of knowledge.
