NDO - The Food Safety Department, Ministry of Health has just issued a warning about the unhygienic food situation from street-side grilled skewer stalls. This familiar and attractive dish is potentially posing many risks of food poisoning, bacterial contamination and long-term accumulation of toxins for consumers.

According to experts, many restaurants selling grilled skewers today use ingredients of unknown origin, spoiled meat or poor quality frozen food.

Skewers are also marinated in cheap food coloring and spices to cover up rancid odors, and used oil that has been fried over and over again - factors that can create carcinogens.

Worryingly, food is often prepared in dusty, uncovered places, close to the road, with unclean cooking utensils and sellers lacking personal hygiene protection.
