On April 26, according to the latest announcement from the Ministry of Science , Information and Communications Technology of Korea, Vietnam has risen to the top in the number of international students in the natural sciences and engineering sector in this country, accounting for 25.1% of the total number of international students.
The first official survey on the situation of international students majoring in natural sciences and engineering shows that in 2024, there will be a total of 29,187 international students studying in Korea.
Of these, 20,186 are undergraduate students and 9,001 are graduate students. After Vietnam, China ranks second with 24.5%, and Uzbekistan ranks third with 9.7%.
Notably, the number of Korean students studying natural sciences and engineering abroad is also at a similar level, with 29,770 people.
Of these, 20,438 were undergraduates and 9,332 were graduate students. The United States remained the most popular destination, with 44.9% of Korean students studying abroad, followed by Japan with 13.9% and Canada with 11.8%.
In order to promote the development of science and technology human resources, the Korean Government has decided to significantly increase the investment budget for 2025.
Specifically, the total budget will reach 9,282.5 billion won (equivalent to 6.47 billion USD), an increase of 1,450.6 billion won (1.01 billion USD) compared to 2024.
In particular, the scholarship fund for excellent students in the natural sciences and engineering sector will be increased from 50.7 billion won (35.4 million USD) to 57.3 billion won (40 million USD).
