Vietnam is confidently entering a new era.

President Luong Cuong emphasized that Vietnam, rising from the ashes of war, is entering a new era with a new mindset, becoming a symbol of peace and a shining light of the global economy.

On the morning of November 14th (early morning of November 15th in Vietnam time), as part of the program to attend the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2024 High-Level Week in Lima, Peru, the APEC Business Summit 2024 took place.

This annual conference is the largest business community meeting in the region. It provides an opportunity for APEC leaders to meet and exchange ideas with senior representatives from thousands of leading businesses across the Asia- Pacific region.

With the theme "People - Businesses - Prosperity," the conference included more than 20 discussion sessions focusing on issues and trends that have a major impact on the development of the region and the world...

President Luong Cuong, as the chief guest, delivered an important speech at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, President Luong Cuong noted that the world is undergoing tremendous, epoch-making transformations that have a profound impact on the international political and economic environment, on individual countries, and even on individual businesses.

As a collection of the world's leading economies, the Asia-Pacific region is at the heart of a new technological revolution, a crossroads of old and new, and subject to the conflicting influences of numerous factors.

The President emphasized that the business community plays a key role in the outstanding successes of the Asia-Pacific region and APEC cooperation. He expressed hope that the business sector would work together with the government to turn challenges into opportunities and opportunities into reality.

The President stated that, after nearly four decades of reform and extensive international integration, from the ashes of war, Vietnam has risen to become a symbol of peace, a shining example in the global economy, and a country of opportunities.

"Vietnam is entering a new era, with a new mindset, with a strong aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country, and with unwavering faith in a bright future," the President affirmed.

Vietnam's strengths include a rapidly developing and dynamic economy, ranking 35th in the world; a strong and stable political system centered on the people; a patriotic, confident, self-reliant, and self-sufficient nation with a population of over 100 million; and numerous international friends and partners across five continents.

The President affirmed that Vietnam's strong development will open up many new opportunities for both domestic and international businesses in fields ranging from trade, industry, agriculture, and tourism to infrastructure, logistics, and high-tech industries.

The Vietnamese market has offered, is offering, and will continue to offer many benefits and advantages that few other places can provide for international businesses and investors.

The President also highlighted the important advantages that the Vietnamese economy possesses. Vietnam has a favorable geographical location in Southeast Asia, with a dynamic, highly open economy and a network of 17 free trade agreements. Vietnam is a large, potential market; a favorable destination for the relocation of supply chains in the region.

Vietnam is initiating a new economy, transitioning from a brown to a green economy, from a traditional economy to a digital economy, one focused on entrepreneurship and innovation.

Vietnam's infrastructure investment currently stands at 5.7% of GDP, the highest in Southeast Asia and the second highest in Asia. A series of major infrastructure projects have been, are being, and will be implemented, such as Long Thanh International Airport, the North-South Expressway, the 500KV power transmission line, and the North-South high-speed railway. Capital flowing into startups has increased rapidly in recent years, projected to reach US$5 billion between 2023 and 2025.

Vietnam is one of the leading economies in digital transformation in the region; the projected value added of the digital economy is expected to reach US$52 billion in 2024.

Concluding his speech, the President affirmed that, in the face of the immense changes in the world and the risks of protectionism, fragmentation, and separation, APEC once again needs to shoulder the responsibility of bridging, connecting, and promoting cooperation among its members to jointly build a transparent and equitable international economic governance system that ensures balanced benefits for all parties.
