April 30, 1975 is not simply a historical milestone for the Vietnamese people, but has become a global symbol of the aspiration for freedom when a small nation defeated three powerful empires: Japanese fascism, French colonialism and American imperialism.
Resumen Latinoamericano - Latin America's leading progressive newspaper has devoted a special article to reviewing this golden history.
According to a VNA reporter in Havana, under the title “ Vietnam, yesterday, today and forever ,” Resumen Latinoamericano reviews the 117-year journey of relentless struggle, from the August Revolution in 1945 under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh , to the Dien Bien Phu victory that “resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world” in 1954.
Author Ruben Darío Guzzetti emphasized: “Although the Geneva Accords recognized Vietnam’s independence, the US ignored it and launched a brutal 19-year war.” This veteran journalist especially praised the spirit of the 11-woman “Song Huong” commando squad who broke into the US Embassy under the guise of cooks and nurses, contributing to the 1968 Mau Than campaign - a turning point that shook the US.
According to international analyst Ruben Darío Guzzetti, when US General Frederick Weyand admitted that the fall of Saigon was only a matter of time, when Ambassador Graham Martin fled from the roof of the US Embassy at dawn on April 30, it was the most humiliating defeat of the most powerful empire at that time.
Answering the question “Why is it necessary to repeat the history of 50 years ago?”, Resumen Latinoamericano affirmed: “The lessons of Vietnam are still valuable.” Journalist Ruben Darío Guzzetti posed a series of tough rhetorical questions: Why not learn from the way the Communist Party of Vietnam builds and trains excellent cadres? Why not study the art of flexible bamboo diplomacy while still maintaining its identity?
Guzzetti emphasized: “The Vietnamese revolution belongs to all progressive humanity.” He pointed out that the Latin American revolutionary movements of the 60s and 70s were deeply influenced by Vietnam, and repeated Fidel Castro’s immortal words: “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its own blood.”
At the end of the emotional article, the author sent words of gratitude from the “Southernmost Land of the Earth”: “The Vietnamese people have realized the slogan ‘A united nation will never be subdued.’ When we talk about Vietnam, we immediately think of struggle, resilience, solidarity, humanity and Socialism. Your sacrifices are not in vain – they are the torch that lights the way for oppressed peoples.”
The article ends with a strong belief: “When humanity overcomes the 'prehistoric era' of class struggle, April 30 will become an international holiday of revolutionary spirit”./.
