On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong warmly welcomed President of the Swiss National Council Martin Candinas and his delegation to Vietnam; believing that the visit will make an important contribution to promoting the increasingly good development of the cooperative relations between Vietnam and Switzerland.
The President affirmed that with the policy of being a friend, a reliable partner and an active, responsible member of the international community, Vietnam wishes to strengthen cooperation with Switzerland in all fields. The Vietnamese people thank Switzerland for always supporting Vietnam in the past cause of national liberation as well as in the current cause of national development.
President of the Swiss Federal Council Martin Candinas expressed his honor and gratitude for the warm welcome of the high-ranking leaders and relevant agencies of Vietnam during the visit; congratulated the State and people of Vietnam on their socio -economic development achievements; and said that Switzerland always considers Vietnam a priority country in developing cooperative relations.
Emphasizing that Vietnam and Switzerland have a long-standing, traditional friendship, and the two countries still have much potential for cooperation in the future, President Vo Van Thuong asked Mr. Martin Candinas to support the promotion of bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially politics , diplomacy, sharing and supporting each other at regional and international forums. Along with that is economic, trade and investment cooperation - a focus in bilateral cooperation.
The President stated that Vietnam is making strong efforts to improve the investment environment and create more favorable conditions for foreign investors, including those from Switzerland.
Switzerland has strengths in areas such as: Finance, banking, manufacturing industry, renewable energy... these are also areas that Vietnam is in need of.
The President expressed his hope that, with its role and position, Switzerland will urge other members to soon complete negotiations and sign the Vietnam - European Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement to promote investment and trade cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.
The President thanked the Swiss Government for its active ODA support, which has brought positive results to Vietnam's socio-economic development. He welcomed the effective cooperation activities between the two countries in higher education, and hoped that the two countries would further strengthen cooperation in this area. The two sides should also promote more people-to-people exchange activities, contributing to creating a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two countries.

Chairman of the Swiss National Council Martin Candinas agreed with the President's proposals on bilateral cooperation; said that Swiss businesses wish to invest and expand long-term investment and business in Vietnam.
Regarding the EFTA issue, Mr. Martin Candinas said that the relevant parties are actively completing the agreements to be able to sign this document soon.
Appreciating the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Switzerland, Mr. Martin Candinas said that Switzerland will promote further cooperation with Vietnam in the field of education, especially vocational training. In addition, with its strengths in automation and robotics, Switzerland is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in industrial production, contributing to deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries in the coming time.
