Vietnam consistently does not support and requests the lifting of unilateral embargoes against Cuba.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent stance of not supporting and demanding the lifting of unilateral embargo measures against Cuba, during a meeting with the First Secretary and President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel.

On the occasion of attending the High-Level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, on the afternoon of September 20 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with the First Secretary and President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

At the meeting, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, both sides expressed their delight that the special traditional relationship, comprehensive support, and cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba are constantly being strengthened, promoted, and developed extensively for the practical benefit of the people of both countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and people of Vietnam will never forget Cuba's heartfelt assistance to Vietnam's national liberation struggle. They always value, preserve, and are determined to further deepen the traditional relationship of solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the just revolutionary cause of the Cuban people. The Prime Minister reiterated Vietnam's consistent stance of not supporting and demanding the lifting of unilateral embargoes against Cuba.

The Prime Minister warmly congratulated Cuba on successfully hosting the G77 Summit with China (September 16-17, 2023) in Havana. The Prime Minister stated that both sides need to continue close cooperation to strengthen trade and investment relations, bringing economic relations to a level commensurate with the excellent political relations between the two countries, in line with the directives and aspirations of the leaders of both Parties and States.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that the Cuba-Vietnam relationship is a beautiful symbol of comradeship and close friendship, meticulously nurtured by President Fidel Castro, President Ho Chi Minh, and successive generations of leaders of both countries over many periods.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel sincerely thanked the Government and people of Vietnam for their invaluable support, for always being a highly reliable friend, and for consistently supporting and assisting Cuba in overcoming the difficulties caused by the blockade and embargo.

Chairman Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that he would direct ministries and agencies to coordinate more closely with Vietnam to promote economic, investment, and trade relations, especially agricultural cooperation, and ensure food security.

Both sides affirmed their joint efforts to successfully organize activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of Leader Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated areas of South Vietnam (September 1973-September 2023), especially on the occasion of the visit to Vietnam by the President of the Cuban National Assembly, Esteban Lazo Hernández.
