The Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent stance of not supporting and requesting the lifting of unilateral embargoes against Cuba, during a meeting with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel.

On the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, on the afternoon of September 20 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel.

At the meeting, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the two sides were pleased that the special traditional relationship, support and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have been constantly strengthened, promoted and developed extensively, for the practical benefits of the people of the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people of Vietnam will never forget Cuba's wholehearted support for Vietnam's national liberation struggle, always respect, preserve and are determined to further deepen the traditional relationship of solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, and stand side by side in supporting the just revolutionary cause of the Cuban people. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent stance of not supporting and demanding the lifting of unilateral embargoes against Cuba.

The Prime Minister warmly congratulated Cuba on successfully hosting the G77 and China Summit (September 16-17, 2023) in Havana. The Prime Minister said that the two sides need to continue to cooperate closely to strengthen trade and investment relations, bringing economic relations to match the good political relations between the two countries, in accordance with the direction and wishes of the leaders of the two Parties and States.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that the Cuba-Vietnam relationship is a beautiful symbol of comradeship and close friendship, which has been cultivated by President Fidel Castro, President Ho Chi Minh and generations of leaders of the two countries over many periods.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel sincerely thanked the valuable support of the Government and people of Vietnam, which have always been a very trustworthy friend, always supporting and assisting Cuba to overcome the difficulties caused by the impact of the blockade and embargo.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that he will direct ministries and sectors to coordinate more closely with Vietnam to promote economic, investment and trade relations, especially agricultural cooperation, and ensure food security.

The two sides affirmed their efforts to coordinate well in organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of President Fidel's visit to the liberated area of South Vietnam (September 1973 - September 2023), especially on the occasion of the visit to Vietnam by President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández.
