On the afternoon of August 9, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Robert Ford, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Abbott Corporation, USA, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister said that in its foreign policy, Vietnam considers the United States one of its leading partners; wishes to promote the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership to become more substantive and effective, on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the US Government in general, US businesses and Abbott Corporation in particular for supporting Vietnam in the fight against COVID-19; highly appreciated Abbott Corporation's practical and effective contributions to Vietnam's economic development and Vietnam-US relations.
The Prime Minister and Chairman of Abbott Group were delighted with the remarkable development of the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship in recent times. The US is Vietnam's largest export market and Vietnam has become the US's 7th largest trading partner, as well as the largest partner in the ASEAN region.
Informing President Robert Ford about the Vietnamese Government's policies and guidelines, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam consistently develops rapidly and sustainably based on science - technology, innovation and digital transformation; builds a fair, transparent and stable business environment, and effectively resolves administrative procedures. Vietnam considers people as the center, subject, driving force and resource of development, therefore paying great attention to investing in ensuring nutrition, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment to take care of people's health.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Government is always ready to listen to the opinions of businesses, including US businesses; wishes and creates favorable conditions for businesses to expand investment and business, especially in the fields of digital transformation, digital economy, manufacturing and processing industry, healthcare, high technology, high-quality human resource training, etc.
Appreciating the Abbott Group for bringing modern medical technologies to the Vietnamese market, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the Group continue to expand investment, upgrade the quality of drug manufacturing plants, and develop the pharmaceutical industry in Vietnam; call on US and other foreign businesses to invest in Vietnam; support Vietnam in developing and implementing professional guidelines on nutrition in hospitals; provide professional training for nutritionists and supervise nutrition activities for hospitals; build model nutrition departments in some hospitals; raise public awareness of the role of nutrition in preventing diseases such as cancer, obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, etc.
Abbott Corporation Chairman Robert Ford was pleased and appreciated the country's development achievements, especially the recovery and socio-economic development after the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the open policy, listening and understanding of the Vietnamese Government towards businesses.
Chairman Robert Ford said that Abbott is a global healthcare corporation with a long history, currently present in 160 countries around the world. Abbott entered Vietnam in 1995. Currently, Abbott has 2 pharmaceutical factories in Vietnam.
Believing that Vietnam has great potential for developing clinical research and large-scale pharmaceutical production, Chairman Robert Ford said that Abbott Group will continue to invest long-term in Vietnam./.
