Vietnam and the US conclude the third round of tariff negotiations.

(Dan Tri) - From June 9 to June 12, in Washington DC (USA), Vietnam and the US began the third round of tariff negotiations. Vietnam and the US have made much progress, narrowing the gap in all areas of negotiation.

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the third round of negotiations on the Bilateral Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between Vietnam and the US was held from June 9 to 12 in Washington DC (USA).

The Vietnamese negotiating delegation was led by Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government Negotiating Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien, with the participation of negotiating delegation members and representatives of ministries and branches including the Ministries of Public Security, Foreign Affairs , Finance, Construction, Home Affairs, Agriculture and Environment, Science and Technology, Justice, and the State Bank.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that during the four days of negotiations, the Vietnamese and US delegations made much progress, narrowing the gap in all areas of negotiations. The two sides had frank and constructive discussions on issues of concern to each country, while taking the time to listen to analyses and explanations towards a suitable solution that both sides could accept.

In addition, Vietnam and the US also agreed to hold an online meeting in the coming days to continue discussing outstanding issues and prepare for online negotiations between US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien.

On the afternoon of the fourth working day - the last session of the technical-level negotiation session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a negotiation session with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Ambassador Jamieson Greer, Chief of the US Trade Representative. The Ministry of Industry and Trade assessed that this was the first time the US had proposed a ministerial-level negotiation in such a manner.

At this negotiation session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien proposed a number of ideas to promote the process and bring about the results of the negotiations. Both US Ministers highly appreciated Vietnam's goodwill and efforts in the negotiations and basically agreed with the ideas proposed by Minister Nguyen Hong Dien.

The two US Ministers also considered this an important basis for the two sides to continue discussing necessary work to promote reaching an agreement between the two countries.

After the plenary session with the two US Ministers, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a direct discussion with Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnick to clarify the contents discussed at the plenary session.

Minister Lutnick affirmed that the US highly values ​​its relationship with Vietnam and wants Vietnam to develop strongly. He acknowledged Vietnam's suggestions and concerns and said he would coordinate with the US Trade Representative to find an appropriate solution.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the assessments of Minister Lutnick and Ambassador Greer and affirmed Vietnam's determination to build and promote economic and trade relations with the US in a balanced and sustainable manner for the benefit of the people and businesses of the two countries.

The Ministers agreed to assign technical levels of Vietnam and the US to continue to increase exchanges to soon reach an agreement in accordance with the expectations and conditions of each side.
