Over the past 80 years, under the absolute and direct leadership in all aspects of the Party, with the love, protection and assistance of the People, inheriting and promoting the patriotism and military art of the Vietnamese people, overcoming countless hardships and challenges, the Vietnam People's Army together with the entire people has achieved great victories in the cause of national liberation and defense of the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

As a part of the heroic Vietnam People's Army, the armed forces of Vinh Long province have achieved many feats and made great contributions to the province and the country, building a strong national defense, contributing to the comprehensive development of the economy and society, making people's lives increasingly prosperous and happy.

Hero in battle

Immediately after gaining power, on August 26, 1945, the first army unit of Vinh Long province was established with 400 people, organized into a company, called the Vinh Long Provincial Republican Guard, commanded by comrade Tran Van Lon, which was also the predecessor unit of the Vinh Long Provincial Armed Forces.

Along with the development and maturity of the Vietnam People's Army, during the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, the provincial armed forces continuously grew in all aspects, from guerrilla groups and teams to forming large concentrated battalions of the province.

Together with the whole country, the army and people of Vinh Long province fought bravely against the enemy with many creative and flexible fighting methods, combining political struggle with military struggle, steadfastly holding their ground, not moving an inch, not leaving an inch, fighting the enemy from small to large scale, with hundreds of large and small battles, winning from one victory to another, together with the main units of Military Region 9 defeating the American wars of aggression on the southern battlefield.

In particular, at the peak of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975, the provincial armed forces coordinated with the 3rd Infantry Regiment (Military Region 9) and the People's Uprising to simultaneously attack in many directions, liberating Vinh Long Town on the night of April 30, 1975, ending in victory, liberating the South and reunifying the country.

After the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the provincial armed forces focused on the task of consolidating and perfecting the organization, building forces according to the general policy of the Ministry of National Defense, in accordance with the organization of the army in peacetime, always being vigilant for the revolution, ready to smash all enemy plots and sabotage tricks; participating in increasing production, doing business, gradually stabilizing and improving the lives of soldiers.

The provincial armed forces participated in the fight to protect the southwestern border of the Fatherland and fulfilled their international obligations. In 1992, Vinh Long province was re-established, the provincial Military Command was also separated and at the same time, the 857th Battalion was re-established. The provincial armed forces quickly stabilized their organization, built and trained regular forces, militia and reserve forces.

Every year, the Party Committee - Military Command has proposed policies, measures, and implementation plans that are close to the requirements of the tasks, and the results of the following year are always higher than the previous year. Timely advising the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee and coordinating with sectors and localities to carry out socio-economic development while maintaining the national defense and security posture. The planning system ensures national defense needs, builds political-spiritual potentials, military potentials, etc. in the defense area, becoming increasingly effective, ready to fight and win in all situations.

Complete all tasks excellently

Promoting the tradition of “Loyalty, solidarity, persistence, bravery, victory”, generations of cadres and soldiers have constantly strived to build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and gradually modernized armed force. According to Colonel Tran Minh Trang - Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Party Committee and Military Command always thoroughly grasp and seriously and effectively implement the directives of the Party and State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and Military Region 9 on military and defense work.

The provincial armed forces have performed well their advisory role to local Party committees and authorities in leading and directing the implementation of local military and defense tasks, building an all-people national defense associated with the people's security posture and building an increasingly solid provincial defense zone. National defense potential has been enhanced, and the overall strength and combat readiness of the armed forces have been improved.

The armed forces have always affirmed their position, role and responsibility in the task of protecting the Party, the government and the people, contributing to maintaining political security, social order and safety, creating a stable environment for local socio-economic development. In addition, building a clean and strong Party organization, strong agencies and units in all aspects and doing well in mass mobilization and policy work in the new situation.

Colonel Tran Minh Trang informed: In 2024, the Party Committee and the Provincial Military Command will focus on leading and directing the successful completion of the set targets and tasks, notably leading the implementation of combat readiness work, coordinating with the police at all levels to maintain and stabilize political security and social order and safety. Improve the quality of combat training and political education for the subjects.

Implementing well the work of building the militia and reserve forces. Up to now, the province has organized the construction of the standing force in accordance with regulations, basically ensuring the planning. Organizing and arranging the staffing of reserve units to ensure compact areas, the militia and reserve forces reaching 1.38% of the population. The recruitment work has met the assigned targets, with good quality.

The Party Committee and the Provincial Military Command advised the Provincial Exercise Steering Committee to direct and guide Tra On district and Binh Minh town to organize defense zone exercises and Binh Tan district to conduct natural disaster prevention and search and rescue exercises to achieve the set goals and requirements. In addition, it is necessary to thoroughly grasp and study the directives and resolutions of the Party Committees at all levels, build a politically strong armed force, effectively implement the military rear policy and ensure good logistics and technical aspects for the unit.

Major General Ho Van Thai - Party Committee Secretary, Political Commissar of Military Region 9, praised the results achieved by the Vinh Long Provincial Military Command in 2024. Promoting the achievements, Major General Ho Van Thai requested the Provincial Party Committee and Military Command to thoroughly implement the combat readiness orders of the Military Region Commander, proactively grasp the local situation, and strengthen the practice of combat readiness plans. In addition, the Military Command needs to synchronously deploy solutions on building discipline, discipline, and comprehensively strong units "Exemplary, typical", policies on the army and the military rear.

Overcoming countless difficulties, challenges, sacrifices, and achieving glorious feats, the Vinh Long Provincial Armed Forces have been honored by the Party and State with noble awards such as the Gold Star Order, Ho Chi Minh Order, Military Exploit Order, and many collectives and individuals have been awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
