Vietjet will transfer 50 Boeing 737 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand under the contract to purchase 200 aircraft signed between Vietjet and Boeing.
This event took place within the framework of the first official visit to Vietnam by a Thai Prime Minister in more than a decade, promising to contribute to the development of tourism economy and enhance connectivity between the two countries and the region.
Under the agreement, Vietjet will hand over the operating rights of 50 Boeing 737 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand. This is part of the contract to order 200 aircraft that Vietjet signed with Boeing earlier. The first aircraft are expected to be delivered from October 2025, with a plan to receive a total of 9 aircraft this year.
This handover will help Vietjet Thailand significantly expand its domestic and international flight network, especially enhancing connectivity between destinations between Thailand and Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet Board of Directors, emphasized: "The transfer of the right to operate the modern and efficient Boeing 737-8 fleet to Vietjet Thailand is Vietjet's long-term commitment to the sustainable development of the regional aviation industry. We will take action to implement the 'Three Connections' strategy between the two countries - including connecting the supply chain, businesses and localities".
Ms. Penny Burtt, President of Boeing Region (third from left, front row), Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao (middle, front row) and General Director of Vietjet Thailand Woranate Laprabang (third from right, front row) presented the agreement to transfer 50 Boeing 737 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand, witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
In addition, Boeing also provides a comprehensive technical service support package to Vietjet Thailand, including pilot and engineer training, maintenance and product services, to ensure the new fleet is put into safe and efficient operation in the Thai market.
The new cooperation agreement marks a strategic step forward in deploying modern narrow-body aircraft in Southeast Asia, and is also a testament to the extensive and effective cooperation between Vietnamese, Thai and US enterprises, in the context of the two countries moving towards the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and beyond, with common priorities for digital transformation, sustainable development and narrowing the development gap between member countries.
Established in 2014, Vietjet Thailand is a new-generation airline joint venture of Vietjet in Thailand, demonstrating effective cooperation in the aviation economy between ASEAN countries. After more than a decade of development, Vietjet Thailand has continuously expanded its fleet and flight network, becoming one of the most dynamic airlines in the Thai market, loved by the people and tourists of the Golden Temple country.
Based at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (Bangkok), Thai Vietjet operates 33 domestic and international routes, connecting Thailand’s economic and tourism centers with Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan (China), Japan and many other countries in the region. The airline has served more than 30 million passengers, contributing positively to the development of tourism, trade and cooperation in the ASEAN region, especially between Vietnam and Thailand.
