In developed countries, only a few centers specializing in Sarcoma (a type of cancer found in connective tissue cells) can perform similar surgeries, and the success rate is not high.
NVH patient was discovered by doctors at Vinmec Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center to have a giant tumor (over 20 cm) located in the pelvic floor area, which is very rare. It is estimated that each year in Vietnam there are only 5-10 cases, accounting for about 5% of bone cancer cases.

Previously, the patient had signs of numbness in the pelvic area, causing limited mobility and abnormal gait. The patient had visited many medical facilities but was diagnosed with minor soft tissue injuries due to playing sports, while the tumor had protruded, compressing the pelvic organs, causing edema and atrophy of the surrounding muscles.
Professor, Doctor Tran Trung Dung, Director of the Orthopedic Trauma and Sports Medicine Center (Vinmec Times City International General Hospital) said that this was a major surgery lasting 8 hours and was very complicated, requiring the smooth multidisciplinary coordination of experienced and highly specialized doctors. The team of doctors, nurses, and technicians participating in the surgery was more than 30 people. In a rare case like this, in the world, there are only a few specialized centers that can perform the surgery.
The surgery was successful, and after three days, the patient regained consciousness and resumed normal activities. With a rapid recovery, the patient was discharged on September 20, exactly one week after the major surgery.
