Winning the auction for the 3,700 - 3,800 MHz frequency band is very important, allowing VNPT to have many options for network equipment, the most reasonable cost for 5G network deployment, meeting the strategy of deploying the highest speed VinaPhone 5G network in Vietnam.
On the evening of March 19, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) announced that in the auction held on the same afternoon, VNPT successfully auctioned the right to use the frequency band 3,700 - 3,800 MHz to serve the strategy of developing 5G network nationwide in the coming time.
The 3,700 - 3,800 MHz band is a mid-range frequency band that many major carriers in the world are looking for and using thanks to its advantages of large bandwidth, strong speed, low latency and effective investment costs, meeting the most advanced 5G networks today.
For VNPT, winning the auction for the 3,700 - 3,800 MHz frequency band is very important, allowing VNPT to have many options for network equipment, the most reasonable cost for 5G network deployment, meeting the strategy of deploying the highest speed VinaPhone 5G network in Vietnam.
Along with the 3,700 - 3,800 MHz frequency band, VNPT also owns the 1,800 MHz frequency band, which will be a great advantage in promoting the 5G network in the coming time, while creating the premise for the development of the 6G network in the future.
A representative of VNPT Group said that the spectrum auction is the first step according to the State's regulations on 5G deployment in Vietnam. After winning the auction for the 3,700 - 3,800 MHz spectrum, VNPT will actively prepare to be able to successfully commercialize 5G soon.
VNPT representative also added that to increase the efficiency of 5G deployment, VNPT will implement a model of infrastructure sharing cooperation with the network operator that wins the bid for the 3,800 - 3,900 MHz frequency block in the upcoming re-auction. This cooperation not only helps optimize the resources of the network operators but also brings customers the best experience with 5G services.
In recent times, VNPT has carefully and systematically prepared a strategy to develop an ecosystem of digital products and services to maximize the power of 5G. VNPT Group prioritizes the development of 5G network infrastructure towards improving user experience, providing high speed, large capacity, and lowest latency while still optimizing the cost of State investment capital and increasing business efficiency.
According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), the higher the frequency band, the larger the bandwidth, the stronger the speed, the lower the latency and the higher the capacity, but the coverage will be limited and easily obstructed by large physical objects such as buildings and trees. Currently, the 5G frequency band in the world is divided into 4 groups including low frequency band (under 1,000 MHz), mid-range band 1 (1,000 - 2,600 MHz) and mid-range band 2 (3,500 - 7,000 MHz), and finally high frequency band (24,000 - 48,000 MHz). Each type of frequency band has different advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, in reality, most network operators try to use many different types of frequency bands at the same time to meet customer needs and optimize service quality.
The starting price of the 3,700 MHz - 3,800 MHz band for 15 years of use is 1,956,892,500,000 VND ( one thousand nine hundred and fifty-six billion, eight hundred and ninety-two million, five hundred thousand VND ). Any enterprise that wins the auction for the 3700-3800 MHz band will have to deploy at least 30% of the number of radio transmission stations committed to deploy in the first 2 years.
Previously, at the auction of the 2,500 - 2,600 MHz frequency block held on March 8, with the starting price for 15 years of use being VND 3,983,257,500,000 ( three thousand nine hundred eighty-three billion, two hundred fifty-seven million, five hundred thousand VND ); after 24 auction rounds, Viettel was the enterprise that won the auction for the right to use this frequency block.
