Boxer Nguyen Cong Dung cannot lose weight to 65kg
The Lion Championship 22 organizers announced that the match between boxer Nguyen Cong Dung and Pham Duc Thang will not take place as scheduled on the evening of May 10 at Tay Ho Stadium ( Hanoi ).
The reason is that on the day of the weigh-in before the event, boxer Nguyen Cong Dung was 10.3kg overweight compared to the 65kg weight class he registered to compete in. This means that his opponent Duc Thang will not compete.
The LC22 Organizing Committee has had a meeting with Kpark Kickfit & Warrior Muay Club and will send an official document to the relevant parties. This is a rare and unexpected incident in the martial arts world.
Fighters have plenty of time to prepare for a fight. Their weight is closely monitored during the cut. So it is very unlikely that they will be 10kg overweight on weigh-in day.
After canceling the match between Nguyen Cong Dung and Pham Duc Thang, the LC22 event still has 10 other matches that are attractive enough for the audience and MMA fans.
Most notably, champion Pham Cong Minh defended his title against opponent Zakhar Dzmitrychenka. Pham Cong Minh was crowned LION Championship champion in the 84kg class at LC11 in December 2023.
Highlight match on the evening of May 10
He defeated Tran Quoc Toan in the third round. Cong Minh currently holds a total record of 4 wins in the MMA LION Championship arena. Cong Minh is a symbol of Vietnamese wushu.
In addition, LC22 will introduce the MMA Trio format for the first time. In LC21, the MMA Duo format created an explosive effect with the matches Nguyen Tien Long - Nguyen Trung Hai (Raptor MMA) and Nguyen Xuan Phuong - Nguyen Ngoc Thuc (Tank Club).
Two teams will participate in the MMA Trio format from C88 with representatives: Nguyen Nguyen Chuong, Nguyen Quoc Bao and Luiz Finocchio (Italy) facing The Champ MMA with three fighters Bach Van Nghia, Le Quang Minh and Mahmoud Aboelkheir (Egypt).
LION Championship is the largest mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament in Vietnam, jointly organized by the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) and Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Joint Stock Company (VIMMA).
