After the scandal of students having to eat leftover rice, soup and food with foreign objects, this morning (October 8), Major General Tran Ngoc Thanh, Director of the Department of National Defense and Security Education ( Ministry of Education and Training ), together with Hanoi University of Science and Technology and local health agencies, directly inspected the kitchens of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
According to Department Head Tran Ngoc Thanh, when the incident occurred, he represented the Ministry of Education and Training to grasp the situation and supervise the school on how to handle the subjects related to the incident.
Speaking to Dan Tri reporter on the afternoon of October 8, Major General Tran Ngoc Thanh said that regarding the work of National Defense and Security Education, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued instructions at the beginning of the school year, which clearly states the quantity, quota, and ensuring food safety for learners.

"Hanoi University of Science and Technology is a national brand, but it is very regrettable that this incident happened. We have requested that the school handle the relevant subjects and individuals and report the incident in writing to the Ministry of Education and Training.
We also asked the school to reorganize the student kitchen so as not to affect the rights of students. The school's viewpoint is that it must be open-minded and handle any mistakes accordingly," said Mr. Thanh.
According to Mr. Thanh, the country currently has 46 National Defense and Security Education Centers. This is the only subject taught by law, requiring full-time centralized accommodation at each level and grade.
Specifically, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, units organize centralized meals for students studying this subject, divided into portions, ensuring quantity, quality and food hygiene and safety.
According to Mr. Thanh, the incident at Hanoi University of Science and Technology is under the authority of the school. Therefore, in the coming time, the Department of National Defense and Security Education will advise the leaders to discipline the schools to comply with the regulations.
Previously, some new students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology reported that the quality of meals during the 2 weeks of National Defense and Security Education at the school was not guaranteed.
Specifically, leftover rice in each table's bowl from the previous meal is collected, mixed, and poured into a tray.
The cafeteria staff then poured the leftover rice into the communal rice bin and continued to distribute it to the units that came later.
Today, about 500 new students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology moved to the school's staff cafeteria (Photo: Duy Thanh).
Not only is the leftover rice from the previous meal reused for the next meal, the half-eaten bowls of soup from each table are also collected and poured into the pot. Afterwards, the kitchen requires the students of the service squad to put all this leftover soup into a common pot to be shared with the next students.
In particular, some students reported seeing many foreign objects in meals, causing many to be scared and have to buy bread to eat.
The leaders of Hanoi University of Science and Technology admitted that some of the reflections were correct, and at the same time, the school accepted responsibility and apologized to parents and students for the unfortunate incident.
Explaining to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the catering provider said that it had not received direct feedback from students about food hygiene, no cases of food poisoning had been recorded, and new staff did not understand the regulations.
This unit also admitted that there were cockroaches that got into the meat slicer, so the information about cockroach legs in the food is correct.
Finding the incident unacceptable, Hanoi University of Science and Technology terminated the contract with the catering provider.
Canteen A15, where the incident occurred, was temporarily closed on the morning of October 8. About 500 students studying National Defense and Security Education moved to the school's canteen for staff and lecturers while waiting for the school to evaluate the new food supplier.
