Peach blossom trees followed people from the North who migrated to the Central Highlands, and every spring they burst into vibrant bloom in the sun-drenched, windswept highlands.

Peach blossom trees "migrate" following in the footsteps of those who leave their homeland.

In the spacious garden tucked away at the end of alley 729 Pham Van Dong, Yen The ward (Pleiku city, Gia Lai province), hundreds of peach trees are waiting for the day they will bloom.

The peach blossoms have entered the leaf-shedding period, sprouting many small flower buds, with a few of the first petals already bursting into a vibrant pink under the bright golden sunlight of the Central Highlands.

The vibrant pink peach blossom gardens on the red soil plateau are truly a rare and unusual sight, attracting many young men and women dressed in their finest clothes to visit and take photos during the spring season.

Diligently pruning each young leaf to ensure the peach blossoms bloom just in time for Tet, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thoa and Mr. Le Van Nghiem are overjoyed, confident that they will once again reap a bountiful harvest from selling peach blossoms for Tet this year.

Mrs. Thoa meticulously pruned each young leaf to ensure the peach branch concentrated its energy on nourishing the flower buds so they would bloom just in time for Tet.

Originally from Gia Loc, Hai Duong , Mrs. Thoa and her husband migrated to this new land several decades ago, raising children and dedicating their lives to coffee cultivation. Nearly a decade ago, when coffee farming yielded an unstable income while she and her husband were getting older and weaker, she discussed selling their coffee plantation and moving to a small garden to grow vegetables and raise chickens.

The idea of growing peach blossoms in the highlands suddenly came to her mind during her visit to her hometown for Tet. With technical support from her younger brother, a peach blossom grower in Gia Loc, Hai Duong, the couple began bringing saplings to their garden to practice growing peach blossoms.

After many ups and downs, learning and gaining experience along the way, the Northern peach trees gradually adapted and took root in the red soil. Over the years, the peach orchard has expanded from a few dozen trees to 400-500 trees as it is today.

In their garden, the couple collected and cultivated beautiful peach blossom varieties from their hometowns of Hai Duong, Thai Binh , and Hanoi, such as pink peach blossoms, light pink peach blossoms, and faded pink peach blossoms, which are growing quite well, just like in the North.

The essence of spring in the homeland on this new land.

Over 400 peach blossom trees are currently in bloom in the garden of a married couple in Pleiku.

Having worked with peach blossoms for several years, Mr. Nghiem says that peach trees thrive in the soil of the Central Highlands. The region enjoys warm sunshine at the end of the year, and the nighttime temperatures aren't too cold, so the trees don't wither, and the blossoms bloom beautifully.

Moreover, the fertile soil allows the petals to open wide and turn a vibrant red, sometimes even more beautiful than those brought in from the North.

Despite producing unique varieties, the selling price at the farm is not much different from peach blossoms imported from the North. Mr. Nghiem said that the trees he grows are mainly aimed at the affordable segment, serving a wide range of people, with each peach tree selling for from a few hundred thousand dong to about 2.5 million dong, rarely higher.

The warm sunshine in the Central Highlands during the last days of the year stimulates the peach blossoms to bloom just in time for Tet.

Besides families from the North, buyers also include government agencies, units, and businesses both within and outside the province.

In this area, Mrs. Thoa and Mr. Nghiem are not the only family growing peach blossoms, but in terms of scale and beauty, no one can surpass them.

Many peach trees have already sprouted flower buds, and here and there are a few early-blooming petals.

Ms. Thoa said that besides investing in good care, she also has her own secrets learned from many failures to cultivate beautiful peach trees that bloom right on Tet (Lunar New Year). With her existing experience, in addition to growing them for sale, Ms. Thoa and her husband also take care of high-value ornamental peach trees that people entrust to their garden.

In the days leading up to Tet, from the 20th day of the 12th lunar month onwards, the peach orchards are bustling with people coming to buy peach blossoms and take photos, filling the gardens with a festive atmosphere.

The peach blossoms are densely packed, with large, vibrant red flowers that are very beautiful to behold.

Despite being exhausted and having spent many years tending to the peach trees, leaving little time for the family's Tet preparations, the whole family is still happy and proud to bring a touch of Northern Vietnamese spring to everyone in this new land.

The couple shared that they are currently cultivating an additional 1,000 peach trees and are preparing to rent land to expand their orchard to meet the demand for Tet celebrations in the area.
