Phuoc Linh Cooperative in Cam Duong Commune (Long Thanh District) has successfully tested planting nearly 2 hectares of Polygonum multiflorum. This is the result of cooperation between this Cooperative and Minh Tam Dai Phat Company Limited ( Binh Duong Province).
Can bring in billions in revenue per hectare
Mr. Nguyen Van Chuc, director of Phuoc Linh Cooperative, shared: "The Polygonum multiflorum plant is easy to grow, easy to care for, has few diseases and is highly economically efficient. We boldly invest when businesses commit to purchasing output and supporting factory construction."
Currently, the cooperative has 16 members who have contributed capital to invest in machinery to process products from Polygonum multiflorum. While waiting for the Polygonum multiflorum to be harvested, the cooperative has launched products such as herbal tea, medicinal pillows, etc. to help generate additional income.
The experimental planting process shows that the Polygonum multiflorum plant is almost disease-free, and the cost of fertilizer and care is much lower than other crops. The planting technique is simple, the investment cost is not too high, suitable for farmers to apply.
According to calculations, with a yield of about 20 tons/ha and a current selling price of about 60,000 VND/kg, the Polygonum multiflorum plant can bring in billions of dong in revenue per hectare.
In addition to Polygonum multiflorum, Phuoc Linh Cooperative also experiments with growing other medicinal herbs such as honeysuckle, Asparagus cocos, and Fritillaria cirrhosa... to diversify raw materials for processing.
Reduce dependence on imports
Minh Tam Dai Phat Company Limited is currently the main partner of Phuoc Linh Cooperative in investing in raw material and processing areas. The company has launched products such as fo-ti powder, tea bags, fo-ti extract and is researching and developing fo-ti coffee.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khanh, director of the company, shared: "The domestic market demand is very large, but most of the raw materials must be imported from China at high prices. When tested in the South, the Polygonum multiflorum plant grew well, had high productivity and stable quality, opening up opportunities to reduce dependence on imports."
The company has invested in processing machinery and is committed to working closely with cooperatives in transferring technology from cultivation to processing. The goal is to build a closed chain, from raw material production to finished product processing, bringing benefits to both farmers and businesses.
With positive results, Phuoc Linh Cooperative and Minh Tam Dai Phat Company are planning to expand the planting area and build more raw material supply chains. This is not only a solution to meet domestic demand but also to target the export market.
The success of this model is a testament to the potential for medicinal plant development in Dong Nai, while contributing to increasing economic value and improving people's lives.
