The pink fire at the heart of the flood
As soon as the order was received, the kitchen team of 6 officers and soldiers moved to Hoa Thinh commune, setting up a kitchen in a safe place near the flooded area. Each pot of hot rice was hastily prepared but full of nutrition. The cooks did not have time to wipe their sweat, just hoping that the meal would not be delayed for the people.
After 5 days, more than 1,500 meals were cooked and delivered to the villages of Phu My, My Dien, Canh Tinh... where many households are still struggling after the flood. The meals are full of meat, fish, eggs, vegetables and soup, neatly packed in styrofoam boxes that retain heat well so that when they reach the people, they are still steaming.
Not only cooking, the "foster brothers" also waded through slippery roads, went to each house and each neighborhood to deliver warm lunch boxes as a way of sending the love of soldiers to those in need.

In the wet kitchen because of the rain, the most beautiful image is probably the scene of youth union members, members of the Women's Union of Hoa Thinh commune, teachers of Hoa Dong Primary School, employees of Tay Hoa Bank Transaction Office... quickly washing vegetables, dividing meat, and packing boxes.
Union member Nguyen Ngoc Thien quickly picked up the green vegetables and shared: "Without anyone telling us, seeing the soldiers working from dawn, we wanted to join hands to get the meals to the people as quickly as possible."
Teacher Tran Thi Tuong Vy emotionally said: “During the flood, every house lacked fire and food. Being able to contribute with the kitchen truck is a joy, a way for us to share some of the difficulties with the people.”
It was this harmonious coordination that turned the kitchen truck into a warm support for the people in the flood-hit areas. Amidst the wind and rain, the hands of the cooking soldiers still steadily cut meat, washed vegetables, and measured rice. No one complained of fatigue, no one complained of difficulty.
Professional military captain Nguyen Cong Tien, who has been directly involved in the truck kitchen these past few days, confided: “Seeing people lacking hot meals, we just wish we could cook more, in a timely manner. It’s tiring, but seeing people receiving their lunch boxes with all their hearts makes me feel excited.”
Present in the flooded area to directly monitor and direct the security work, Captain Nguyen Huu Ry - Assistant of the Military Region's Logistics Department, affirmed: "During the flood, the logistics force - the military logistics industry not only serves the army but also has to take care of the people. The self-propelled kitchen truck helps us to be proactive, cook quickly, and ensure the quality of meals in all conditions." He believes that the kitchen truck is a "right-hand man", especially in the case of sudden and prolonged natural disasters.

Warm lunch boxes in the cold
In places where water is still flooding, family stoves are out, firewood is wet, cooking becomes difficult, so when receiving hot lunch boxes, many people cannot hide their emotions.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh (Hoa Thinh commune) choked up and said: "The rice is still so hot, it's been a long time since I've had a steaming meal like this. The soldiers take such good care of the people."
Ms. Le Thi My Hoa, a resident of the same commune, said in tears: “The water has receded for the past few days, there is no electricity, no water, and firewood has been swept away by the flood, so we can’t cook anything. This lunch box arrived just in time, it saved my whole family.” Smiles returned to the faces that were exhausted after many days of fighting the flood.

Few people know that this kitchen truck that is burning red hot every day in the middle of the flood area is a product of research at the Ministry of National Defense level since 2016. With the ability to cook for 200 - 250 people/time, saving fuel, maneuvering on many terrains, operating well in rain and wind, the kitchen truck was designed for camping and combat but now shows absolute effectiveness in a new mission: fighting natural disasters - rescuing people.
While the flood waters have not yet receded, amidst immeasurable losses, the hot lunch boxes from the self-propelled kitchen truck are a source of trust and meaningful sharing. It is the truest image of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” who are always present in the most difficult places, bringing warmth to lives in need of support.
