Fruit and vegetable industry increases export value sharply

An increase of nearly 13% over the same period last year, reaching more than 58 billion USD - this is an impressive figure for the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 10 months of this year. In this result, a positive signal is coming from the fruit and vegetable industry when it has achieved a strong increase again after a period of decreasing value.

The export value of fruits and vegetables in October reached more than 960 million USD, bringing the total export value of fruits and vegetables in the first 10 months of the year to more than 7 billion USD, an increase of 15% over the same period last year.

It is worth noting that the export value of fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market increased by nearly 2%, and to the US market by nearly 60%. Durian continued to be a key product that accelerated during the three peak harvest months from August to October, with export turnover reaching 1 billion USD in some months, bringing the value in the past 10 months to more than 3 billion USD.

Hundreds of durian trucks pass through the border gate every day

Recently, the situation of durian export congestion due to the temporary suspension of some testing laboratories has made it impossible for businesses to complete the analysis procedures for cadmium and yellow O indicators - a mandatory condition for granting export certificates. After the meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on October 24, there have been positive impacts. The total daily customs clearance volume in Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Lang Son provinces is currently about 300 - 400 trucks.

At Huu Nghi International Border Gate, Mr. Nguyen Van Huy (Hoang An Thang Long Company Limited, Ha Tinh Province) representing a durian exporting enterprise is actively coordinating with officers of the Plant Quarantine Sub-Department of Region VII to complete the final procedures and prepare for customs clearance. According to the enterprises, as long as they complete all required documents and procedures, they can clear customs immediately.

According to data from the authorities, in recent days, customs clearance of import and export goods at the border gates of Lang Son province has been taking place normally. Currently, all vehicles carrying export goods into the border gate area are regulated and reasonably channeled by the authorities, creating the most favorable conditions for customs clearance activities.

Major To Duc Long - Border Guard Station of Huu Nghi International Border Gate, Lang Son Provincial Military Command said: "Currently, at the border gate, the flow of goods has increased, in which fruits and durian have increased compared to the previous period. We have arranged people early, from afar to help the flow of durian fruit smoothly and quickly."

"There are about 50 to 70 trucks of durian exported every day and the amount of inventory in the yard every day is not much, usually from 15 to 20 trucks of inventory, goods arrive late to wait until the next day to export," said Mr. Nong Quang Hung - Deputy Captain of Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs, Customs Branch VI.

At Tan Thanh Border Gate, the time to complete customs procedures is now significantly shortened, no more than 5 minutes from the time of receiving goods documents and arranging a separate lane for durian trucks, contributing to speeding up customs clearance and ensuring goods quality.

After the inspection problem was resolved, durian customs clearance at northern border gates has stabilized, reaching 300 - 400 vehicles per day.

The goal is to not interrupt fruit and vegetable exports.

With the goal of not allowing any fruit and vegetable shipments to be interrupted due to testing or technical procedures, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment continues to strengthen the review of laboratory capacity, send experts to support localities, request maximum mobilization of legally qualified units, ensure smooth export to key production areas, especially ensuring the value of 1.5 million tons of durian this year.

This year, Dak Lak province's durian output is estimated at 390,000 tons, an increase of 30,000 tons compared to last year. By the end of October, the harvest had basically ended, with about 10% of the remaining output. The current purchase price at the garden is around 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, although slightly down compared to last year, growers still have high profits.

With steady growth and many positive signals from major markets, the fruit and vegetable industry is expected to surpass the 8 billion USD mark for the first time this year. While previously, most of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetables were exported in fresh form, depending on the season, now the proportion of deeply processed products, packaged according to standards and refrigerated is increasing rapidly.
