In the letter, Ms. Tu said that on May 14, 2025, she and some acquaintances were driven by a car from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh. When they reached Phu Yen, the driver drove the car to gas station 120, on National Highway 1A (Phu Thanh village, An Chan commune, Tuy An district) to rest. When she had just closed her eyes, Ms. Tu was suddenly approached by a stranger who opened the car door and snatched the handbag she was carrying, causing the victim to fall onto the concrete road and had to be taken to the provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment in a state of traumatic brain injury.
After the incident, in the dead of night, the Criminal Police Department sent many reconnaissance teams to urgently search and quickly investigate, clarify, and arrest Vo Hong Ly and Phan Van Cuong (both born in 1988, residing in Binh Kien commune, Tuy Hoa city).
Expanding the investigation, these two suspects also confessed to having committed a series of car break-ins and property thefts on National Highway 1A.
Authorities searched the residence of Vo Hong Ly.
"Not only devoted to my profession, determined to fight and capture criminals to the end, during my hospitalization, the Criminal Police officers and soldiers often came to visit me and encouraged me to rest assured during my treatment. Only today, when my health was stable, did I learn that the Phu Yen Agency had clarified the subject who snatched my handbag.
With admiration and trust, I would like to sincerely thank the People's Committee of Phu Yen province, the Board of Directors of the Provincial Police Department and the Criminal Police Department for not fearing day and night, hardship, quickly arresting the perpetrator, preserving the peaceful and happy life of the people", Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Tu emotionally wrote in the letter.
