The victory of our army and people in the resistance war against the US to save the country is the greatest achievement in the cause of national liberation and defense of the Fatherland led by the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh; it is a heroic and brilliant page in the history of the nation's thousands of years of building and defending the country. We have completed the glorious historical mission of completely liberating the South, unifying the country, opening a new era for the nation - the era of independence, unity and together building a socialist Vietnam of "rich people, strong country, democracy, equality and civilization". This is also a typical victory of the world revolutionary forces; contributing to strongly promoting the struggle of the world's people for the goal of independence, peace, democracy and social progress; encouraging, motivating and inspiring the peoples who are carrying out the cause of national liberation, fighting against imperialism, initiating the bankruptcy of neo-colonialism all over the world.

Reason for victory

The great victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country was the result of a series of factors. It was the leadership of our Party, headed by President Ho Chi Minh, with correct, creative, independent and autonomous political and military lines; it was the brave and intelligent fight of all our people across the country, with the core being the three-armed forces and the superiority of the socialist regime in the North of our country; it was the solidarity and steadfast fighting alliance of the people of the three Indochinese countries; it was the strong sympathy and support of revolutionary and peaceful forces in the world.

Lessons learned
