Suoi Giang in late spring is green from the fresh Shan Tuyet tea buds stretching up to the sky, weaving a magical peaceful look for the mountainous region. In the lyrical atmosphere, the pronunciation of letters mixed with the joyful laughter of teachers and students of Suoi Giang Kindergarten creates an atmosphere like paradise.
Spacious classrooms filled with laughter and attractive playgrounds have gradually become a familiar image in all kindergartens in the mountainous province of Yen Bai over the years. Among such schools, Suoi Giang Kindergarten has also made a unique mark by adding a traditional tea room, which is both a place to invite guests to enjoy tea and a place where teachers introduce children to tea culture.
During extracurricular hours, Mong children are given detailed instructions by teachers on the steps from picking tea, processing tea, to how to make tea, serve tea, and even more importantly, the task of introducing tea to everyone. Stories about tea are integrated into such lessons to help children here absorb the mission of preserving and promoting the Shan tea title of their homeland.
Ms. Lo Ngoc Loan - Principal of Suoi Giang Kindergarten shared that Suoi Giang is known as the "capital of Shan Tuyet tea" - the place that owns the rarest and most unique tea variety in Vietnam. In addition, this land also preserves many cultural heritages of the indigenous Mong people, closely associated with ancient tea trees hundreds of years old.
In recent years, the locality has promoted tourism development in conjunction with the development of Shan Suoi Giang tea products. Since then, tea has become not only a common drink but also an indispensable cultural feature in the lives of Vietnamese people. Therefore, bringing tea culture into schools not only helps students better understand the origin and value of tea but also contributes to preserving and promoting the national cultural identity.

“Through extracurricular activities, teachers have been guided and helped children practice how to make tea and identify each type of tea. Bringing tea culture into schools in Suoi Giang is not only an important step in preserving and promoting national cultural identity but also contributes to creating a positive learning environment.
Through this activity, children can communicate, experience and gradually form a love for Shan tea and Suoi Giang, while also creating a basic foundation for them to become guides to spread the culture of Shan tea in Suoi Giang in the future" - Ms. Loan shared.
Not far away, teachers at Suoi Giang Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities also developed appropriate programs to encourage students to learn and practice tea culture. Thanks to that, students have a basic understanding of the history of Shan Tuyet tea, the traditional tea production process, and tea making practice. To realize the aspiration of Shan Tea to grow, the school has coordinated with a number of units to also carry out short projects on tea culture at the school.

According to Mr. Luong Van Tam - Chairman of Suoi Giang Commune People's Committee, bringing tea culture into schools brings many practical benefits such aseducating about cultural values, developing life skills, encouraging the spirit of "start-up" through understanding tea. In particular, every year, students participate in local tea festivals, which not only have cultural activities but also provide an opportunity for them to show off their talents and creativity.
Mr. Luyen Huu Chung - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Yen Bai province said that Yen Bai is a land with a large concentration of ethnic minorities with diverse cultures and customs. In recent years, Yen Bai has shaped a philosophy of green, harmonious, unique and happy development, in which tourism is positioned as a key economic sector.
On that basis, Yen Bai education sector has actively integrated extracurricular programs to impart cultural values to students so that they can understand, appreciate, preserve and promote traditional values. Thanks to that, students have the necessary luggage to confidently step into the future, both spreading cultural identity and contributing to tourism development and local economic development.
