In Xuan Ai commune, Van Yen district, these days, members of Xuan Ai Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative are urgently producing, processing and packaging cinnamon products to deliver export orders to China. Although it has only been in operation since October 2024, the Cooperative has sold 200 tons of cinnamon thanks to its scientific production process, meeting the requirements of quality, quantity and delivery schedule.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai - a member of the cooperative said: "Taking advantage of the cinnamon material area of Van Yen district, the cooperative produces many products such as cinnamon flutes, cinnamon pipes, unshaving whole cinnamon tubes... serving both the domestic market and exporting to India, Taiwan, China, and the Middle East. In addition, the cooperative also invests in processing more agricultural products such as star anise, chili, and turmeric to expand its scale, creating stable jobs for workers."
Mr. Vu Dai Phong - Director of the Cooperative said: "The Cooperative focuses on building centralized factories, investing in modern technology, strengthening links with cinnamon growers, and actively seeking new partners for long-term product consumption."
Also in Xuan Ai commune, Quyet Hung mulberry growing and silkworm raising cooperative quickly recovered production after damage caused by storm Yagi in September 2024. With support from the province and the Cooperative Union, members replanted damaged mulberry areas and continued to care for more than 10 hectares of harvested mulberry. Mr. Trieu Xuan Hoa - Director of the cooperative shared: "After a week of raising, my family's new batch of silkworms is expected to produce 65 kg of cocoons, at a price of 210,000 VND/kg, bringing in nearly 14 million VND, with a profit of over 11 million VND. In early April, my family also sold 151 kg of cocoons, earning more than 32 million VND".
Secretary of the Xuan Ai Commune Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuc, said that the whole commune currently has more than 10 cooperatives operating mainly in the agricultural sector. Thanks to mastering the techniques and enjoying support policies from the province such as Resolution 69 of the Provincial People's Council on building barns, seeds, materials and connecting to the market, the cooperatives have confidently expanded production, creating jobs for many workers.
In Van Hoi commune, Tran Yen district, favorable weather at the beginning of the year helped Van Hoi beekeeping cooperative proactively move bee colonies to areas with abundant flower sources such as Nghia Lo town, Van Chan district. The cooperative cooperated with garden owners to place bees for honey collection, and cooperated with local beekeeping households to share experiences and support product consumption. Mr. Tran Van Ly - Director of the cooperative said: "Thanks to flexible production organization and effective linkage, the cooperative's honey products are increasingly favored by the market."

Currently, the province has 5,769 Cooperatives with over 28,800 members; 839 Cooperatives with nearly 34,000 members operating in various fields, creating regular jobs for over 20,000 workers, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction, political stability, and local socio-economic development. In 2024, the average revenue of cooperatives in the province will reach 2.2 billion VND/cooperative, contributing to the state budget of over 53 billion VND. Along with that, the Provincial Cooperative Union has strengthened advisory work, promoted propaganda, coordination and consultation, and supported the development of collective economy in the area.
Also in 2024, the Provincial Cooperative Union chaired and coordinated with districts, towns and cities to establish 113 new cooperatives; advised and supported 35 cooperatives in carrying out procedures and documents to consolidate cooperatives; and admitted 105 new members. The Provincial Cooperative Union managed and implemented preferential loans for cooperatives from various capital sources. Currently, there are 65 projects using capital, with a total amount of over 40 billion VND.
At the same time, the Cooperative Union has supported the construction of 5 cooperative models producing according to the value chain; consulted on building OCOP profiles for 9 products; promoted over 500 OCOP products and regional specialties of cooperatives, cooperative groups, and member enterprises at exhibitions, fairs, and conferences inside and outside the province; coordinated to support machinery for 4 cooperative units with a total amount of 676 million VND... Thanks to the above practical activities, it has contributed to consolidating and creating positive changes for cooperatives in the province to expand their scale, develop production, create more jobs, stable income for workers, and contribute to the State budget.
It can be seen that the initiative and flexibility of the Cooperative Union and cooperatives in production and business, together with support from provincial and central programs and projects, are the "keys" to help cooperatives overcome difficulties, expand scale, improve efficiency, thereby affirming the important role of the collective economy in the socio-economic development of Yen Bai province.
