EDITORIAL NOTE: The teaching profession has always been honored and admired. On the occasion of November 20, VietNamNet has launched a series of articles about teachers and artists standing on the podium and on the stage who are diligently creating stars in the fields of cinema, theater, music ... They can be a former runner-up, a famous People's Artist on the screen or a singer with a PhD who is known nationwide.

While many beauties choose the business path or only focus on showbiz-related events after being crowned, Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh (Miss Vietnam 2020 1st Runner-up), Phuong Thanh (Miss Vietnam 2024 1st Runner-up) and Le Au Ngan Anh (Miss Ocean 2017) choose to focus on teaching at universities. They are lecturers and staff at prestigious universities: RMIT Vietnam, Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema and Hoa Sen University, Ho Chi Minh City.

Challenging stereotypes

While Phuong Thanh was lucky to be warmly welcomed by students of Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Music, Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh was worried when information about her teaching was leaked on social media before she officially announced it.

"When someone posted on a student group, I saw many skeptical and even negative comments. At that time, I was also worried because I was afraid that students would see me differently," Phuong Anh said. However, the reality was not as pessimistic as she thought.

Phuong Anh shared with VietNamNet: "When I officially entered the school, everything was very warm. I have never met any disrespectful students. On the contrary, the students at RMIT are very polite, well-mannered and extremely cute." She started making the #cogiaophuonganh series on TikTok after about a year of teaching because she wanted to wait until she was really stable with the job, clearly understood the emotions of the job and of the students before starting to create content about the job.

Le Au Ngan Anh feels lucky because the academic environment is fair and transparent. Colleagues and leaders do not look at her title but evaluate her teaching results, feedback from student satisfaction, and the beauty's level of contribution to the faculty.

Feelings when first standing in front of class

Although they are used to the spotlight and speaking in front of thousands of audiences, all three admitted that the feeling of standing in front of a class for the first time was completely different. Phuong Thanh did not hide a bit of pressure because here, she not only performed but also shared knowledge and life experiences.

Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh, who currently teaches at RMIT Vietnam, had a similar experience: "The first time I stood in front of a class, I clearly remember that moment - when I looked down and saw the curious and expectant eyes of my students. A huge responsibility arose in me, not only to impart knowledge but also to create positive energy so that they feel inspired."

Meanwhile, Le Au Ngan Anh looked at the issue from a different perspective. She shared with VietNamNet: "The title of Miss makes people curious but also makes them question my abilities. Students can come to class on the first day out of curiosity about the 'Miss Teacher' but to keep them staying for 15 weeks, excited about the subject, no title can help."

When students become inspiration

All three have good memories with students, but each person remembers them in their own way. Phuong Thanh emotionally told about a shy student in the "actor's emotional memory" exercise: "After a round of the class telling a happy or sad story, when it was his turn to share, he suddenly burst into tears. At that time, I reassured him by telling his personal story, and he became more confident and stood in front of the class to tell his story. After that, he often texted when he needed advice or received a prize. I was happy to see my students grow up every day."

Phuong Anh still remembers the moment a student texted her to ask how she was doing after reading negative comments online, making her appreciate the students' feelings even more.

Le Au Ngan Anh appreciates the thank you emails from students after graduation: "Today at the interview, the employer asked me a situational question exactly like the case study you gave the class. I applied the model you taught and was highly appreciated, passing the interview." The beauty emphasized that for a trainer, there is no more valuable thank you than seeing your knowledge transformed into confidence and opportunities for success in reality by students.

Not the way to get rich

On the issue of income, all three have an open and realistic view. Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh said that the income at RMIT is very good compared to the general level of the teaching profession, especially in an international academic environment. However, she also admitted that it comes with a great responsibility to meet global standards.

Phuong Thanh also revealed to VietNamNet: "The teaching profession is not a 'rich in money' profession but a 'rich in meaning' profession. I chose this job because I feel I am doing something useful and greater than that is continuing my grandmother's teaching work."

Le Au Ngan Anh also shared that the income of a lecturer is difficult to compare with the income from projects in the event industry or other business fields. But she emphasized: "Choosing a teaching career is not because it is the fastest way to get rich. We receive other benefits: stability, a good environment to support research orientation, respect and joy when seeing students grow up and succeed."

Live every moment to the fullest

The three beauties all have their own way of balancing teaching work and personal life. Phuong Thanh chooses to live slowly. When teaching, she focuses on her students; when studying, she focuses on listening to lectures; when participating in social activities, she devotes herself wholeheartedly; and when at home, the beauty turns off her phone and spends time with her family and herself.

Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh doesn't try to "balance" in the traditional sense, but learns to blend everything together.'' Teaching, content creation, and other activities all come from the same source of energy - the love of sharing," she says.

Le Au Ngan Anh - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Tourism - Restaurant - Hotel at Hoa Sen University, Ho Chi Minh City, who is studying for a PhD and raising a young child, has a practical philosophy of life: "Balance is not about dividing equally by 1/2 or 1/4, but about being flexible and knowing which work to prioritize more at each time." She puts health first and creates a fixed habit: "From 6pm to 9pm will be quality time for my son or going out with the whole family, going out to eat. After my son goes to bed, that is the time for me to deal with the remaining work of the day or have a quiet time for research."

The journey from beauty titles to the lecture hall of Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh, Phuong Thanh and Le Au Ngan Anh is proof that beauties can seriously contribute to education. Titles can open doors but only ability, passion and perseverance can help them stand firmly on the podium.
