49 years ago, the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising took place over 55 days and nights at a speed of "one day equals 20 years".
The General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, marked the maturity of the Vietnam People's Army in both force organization and coordinated combat command. The glorious victory of our army and people in the Spring of 1975 created a great turning point in the history of the nation; smashing the puppet government apparatus of the Republic of Vietnam, the country was reunited; it was a great and glorious victory in the history of thousands of years of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people.
The great victory in the spring of 1975 demonstrated the wisdom and strategic talent of our Party in leading and directing the revolutionary war, as well as the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the struggle against foreign invaders. From here, our country entered the era of building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam, for the goal of a rich people, a strong country, democracy, equality, and civilization.

The road to complete victory, liberating the South, and unifying the country was the 21 most arduous and fierce years in the history of our nation's resistance against foreign invaders; it was the exchange of blood and bones of compatriots and soldiers across the country, with countless sacrifices of heroic sons on the S-shaped strip of land. The desire for peace , independence, and freedom has always been nurtured in the hearts of the country's elite sons, whether it was nearly 50 years ago or until tomorrow.
In every period of the country, the youth has always been the shock force, the backbone. During the resistance war against the US, to save the country, the whole country had more than 5 million union members and young people joining the armed forces; over 133 thousand union members and young people, of which more than 69 thousand women participated in the youth volunteer movement. The resistance war against the US, to save the country of the Vietnamese people is the embodiment of revolutionary movements of the whole nation initiated and led by the Party. The process of reaching the day of total victory has marked many revolutionary movements of the young generation, in which "Three ready" is a movement with strong and widespread appeal, starting from the youth of the capital Hanoi , then becoming a common emulation movement of the youth of the whole country. The "Three ready" movement has great significance and left many valuable experiences in the Party's youth work to further promote the will, spirit of dedication and creativity today.
The 12th Central Conference (December 1965) of the Party set out the task: The whole country is determined to defeat the American imperialists' war of aggression, regardless of the situation, to protect the North and liberate the South. In that spirit, since 1966, the "Three Readies" movement continued to expand new contents, meeting the requirements and new strategic tasks of the Party, which were: "Ready to fight, fight bravely, ready to join the armed forces; ready to overcome all difficulties, promote production, work and study in any situation; ready to go anywhere, do anything that the Fatherland needs".
A characteristic of the “Three Readies” movement is the spirit of readiness to join the army, to become a youth volunteer, to be ready to participate in combat, to fight bravely. The voluntary applications to join the army written in blood and many diaries of young men and young soldiers expressed the determination of “Three Readies” of the youth of the socialist North. Among the young students, intellectuals, thousands of teachers and students of Hanoi University at that time responded to the “Three Readies” movement, put down their pens and went to war. They contributed to creating the heroic tradition of the youth of the North, of the youth of universities, many of whom heroically sacrificed themselves on the battlefield in the South...
Spread the spirit of volunteering
Born in peace, the idea and aspiration for peace in today's youth generation is kindled and grows in the hearts of young people over the years, with their footsteps through every inch of their homeland soaked in the blood and bones of their ancestors, in every revolutionary song they sing, in every historical site they visit... For young people, the aspiration for peace is the burning desire to contribute and contribute to preserving and building the Fatherland, so that the country is strong, has a great foundation and position, and prevents all dangers of war.
Following the spirit of the “Three Readies” movement, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has launched many typical action programs among the youth nationwide, such as “Vietnamese youth learn and follow Uncle Ho’s teachings;” “Sentimentality of the border and islands,” “Youth journey for the homeland’s sea and islands,” “Accompanying young fishermen to go to sea,” “Contributing stones to build Truong Sa;” movements: “Youth join hands to build new countryside,” “Youth participate in building urban civilization,” “5 good students,” “3 responsibilities,” “Young creativity”...

In particular, the movements “Shocking, volunteering to develop socio-economy and protect the Fatherland” and “Accompanying young people to establish careers” have been widely deployed with tens of millions of young people participating. The Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, after more than 20 years of implementation, has now become a large-scale movement among young people, bringing about many great results.
Many youth and student volunteer teams have not been afraid of difficulties and hardships to go to the people in the highlands, remote areas, and revolutionary bases to carry out practical activities to help the people, such as teaching, rebuilding houses, and providing medical care. Many young intellectuals in the socio-economic fields have gone to difficult and arduous places to hold hands and show them how to do things, helping people develop the economy, escape poverty, and enrich their homeland and country.
The year 2024 marks the 49th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, but also marks the 20th anniversary of March being chosen by the Party and the State as Youth Month. That journey has marked the mark of generations of Vietnamese youth in the process of contributing to the country's development, with the spirit of dynamism, volunteerism, and creativity for the benefit of the community and society, as well as the attention and support for youth development work.
Youth Month has become an extremely meaningful annual activity associated with youth work in all levels of the Youth Union, union members, and youth nationwide; leaving its mark with a series of practical projects and tasks aimed at the community, contributing to ensuring social security, both training and experiencing many useful lessons, becoming bright memories of youth through beauty work.
During the 20 years of Youth Month, more than 100 million union members and young people have participated in Youth Month activities. Young people nationwide have joined hands to carry out more than 668 thousand youth projects and tasks across the country with an estimated total value of up to 4,500 billion VND; millions of gifts have been given to people across the country.
As a responsible country in the international community, Vietnam strictly fulfills its obligations and actively cooperates with other countries to resolve emerging security issues, contributing to protecting peace and stability in the region and the world. After nearly 10 years of deploying forces to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations, Vietnam has sent about 800 officers and staff to perform tasks at United Nations peacekeeping missions in both individual and unit forms. This force is mainly young officers and soldiers, selected from units throughout the army; undergoing rigorous tests and examinations, meeting the high requirements of the United Nations, and having the qualities and capacity to work in an international environment.
The young Vietnamese soldiers deployed always promote their roles and responsibilities in their assigned positions and duties, and are recognized and highly appreciated by the United Nations and international friends, contributing to spreading the beautiful image of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the Vietnam People's Army and the beautiful country and people of Vietnam, who love peace and are always ready to contribute to humanitarian missions, for world peace.
