However, some people believe that the original meaning of this sentence should be "A gentleman has shallow feet, a petty person has shallow stomach". They explain that "shallow feet" means a person with thick soles, showing good health, steady steps, strong will, often helping others without calculation. "Shallow stomach" refers to a person with narrow thinking, looking low and short.
