On June 17, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Canada signed a cooperation agreement to establish a new fund worth CAD 360 million (about USD 262.1 million) to support private projects in the Asia- Pacific region, focusing on climate and nature-based solutions, while promoting gender equality.

ADB and Canada Partner to Support Asia-Pacific Region

The fund, called the Canadian Climate and Nature Fund for the Private Sector in Asia (CANPA), is administered by ADB on behalf of the Government of Canada.

According to ADB, the Asia- Pacific region accounts for more than half of global greenhouse gas emissions and is also the region most affected by climate change. More than 60% of the population in this region works in sectors most vulnerable to climate change.

The collaboration between ADB and Canada in establishing CANPA is a testament to their shared commitment to promoting sustainable development and combating climate change in the region.
