At 12 Le Loi Street, Cai Khe Ward, there is a zero-dong noodle shop, open from 11am to 12pm. The shop serves free food to the needy workers or anyone who comes to eat. The shop’s owners are Mr. Nguyen Minh Trung and Mrs. Huynh Hong Tuyet.

Comedian Huu Thach gave noodles to Mr. Trung and Mrs. Tuyet to serve at the zero-dong noodle shop.

Having just finished a motorbike taxi ride at 7:30 p.m., Mr. Le Van Cuong, a resident of Ninh Kieu ward, stopped by a zero-dong noodle shop. He confided: “Since I found out that there are free noodles here, whenever I haven’t had time to eat or am too hungry late at night, I always come here. Thanks to the noodle shop, workers like me are much better off!” As for Mrs. Ut, a lottery ticket seller who is over 70 years old, she said that she and her daughter live in a rented house and sell lottery tickets to make a living. She is illiterate so she couldn’t read the zero-dong sign, thinking the shop was selling for money so she didn’t dare come in. Now that the shop owner bought the lottery tickets and asked her to eat noodles, she found out that it was free. From now on, she will occasionally come here if she passes by while selling.

A bowl of noodles with stewed bones, minced meat, quail eggs... full of nutrition is a delicious meal, warming the hearts of many people who visit the restaurant: from poor workers to students, or anyone in need, the restaurant is happy to serve. Ms. Huynh Hong Tuyet, the owner of the noodle shop, said: "Our family does business, also wants to contribute a part of charity to the community. At first, my family put a box of free iced tea in front of the door for passersby, then my husband saw that many people work hard, wanted to help them have a decent meal, so we agreed to make noodles for 0 VND. At first, I just boiled water and poured it into instant noodles with spices, added quail eggs and sausages, then I felt that it was not enough, so I bought more marrow bones to make the water sweeter, added minced meat to make it more delicious, and added 2 quail eggs." For convenience, Ms. Tuyet and her husband invested in buying a large electric pressure cooker to stew bones to make soup. After cooking, just plug it in to keep the water hot. When guests come, just put the noodles in a bowl, add soup, meat, eggs, and bones and you're done.

The noodle shop, which has been open since May, has become a familiar destination for many people. Some friends and benefactors support this meaningful activity by donating instant noodles, spices, etc. because Ms. Tuyet does not accept money. The day we arrived, we coincidentally met comedian Huu Thach (in Ho Chi Minh City) who stopped by to donate several boxes of noodles to the shop. Artist Huu Thach said: “I am a friend of Mr. Trung, the owner of the shop. Every time I have business in Can Tho, I visit his house. Knowing that he and his wife run a zero-dong noodle shop, I think it is very interesting because they can help many people in need with a delicious meal, so I donated noodles or whatever is needed. I hope that they will maintain the shop for a long time and have more people join hands to support it so that we can help more people.”

In addition to free noodles, every full moon, Ms. Tuyet also makes Long Xuyen broken rice or vegetarian rice to give to people in her house. Each time, she makes about 200 rice boxes. When there are many supporters, she also gives away 10 packs of noodles for each portion of rice. In addition, she always has 5kg bags of rice in her house, and whenever she sees someone in great difficulty, she sends them rice. Ms. Tuyet confided: "I make as much as I have, when there are more benefactors who support noodles, rice, and raw materials, I will give more, helping more people!"
