Students asked questions and interacted with poet Tran Dang Khoa.
The Turtle Hall of Can Tho University with about 1,300 seats was full very early, everyone eagerly welcomed the appearance of poet Tran Dang Khoa. And when he entered the hall, the atmosphere seemed to explode with cheers and applause. This shows the attraction of the program as well as Tran Dang Khoa's poetry, even though many poems were composed nearly 60 years ago.
The stage has tables and fresh flowers to invite speakers to talk, but poet Tran Dang Khoa jokingly said he would like to "stand and talk" to talk to the audience, whom he always compares to "gods". The poet opens with a folk song: "Can Tho has white rice and clear water / Whoever goes there does not want to return" to praise the beautiful scenery and especially the people of Can Tho, who are sincere, charming, affectionate, and love literature. "White rice and clear water" - the specialty of Can Tho, after all, is also created by the hands, labor and affection of Can Tho people. He also mentioned a Can Tho that loves poetry and has a tradition of literature.
Next, the stories about “The Grain of Rice in Our Village”, “Why Don’t You Come Back, Gold”, “Mother is Sick”… were told by the author himself, from the context of the composition to the words in the poem. The storytelling art of poet Tran Dang Khoa is very attractive, cheerful, witty but coherent, like a good essay. Through that, the listener understands more easily confused words in the poem “The Grain of Rice in Our Village” or the very naive, cute context of the composition of “Why Don’t You Come Back, Gold” by a poet not yet 10 years old…
It can be said that it has been a long time since Can Tho University students have been able to fully experience literature through a very meaningful exchange program. About 30-40 years ago, Can Tho University invited poets Xuan Dieu, Che Lan Vien, Vien Phuong... to exchange right at the Turtle Hall, creating a very good effect and now that bridge has been bridged.
Among the more than 1,000 students attending, most were students from the Literature and Literature Pedagogy Department of Can Tho University. They were engrossed in following the program, as if it were a good lesson, “real people, real events”, a journey from the lecture hall to literature. We met Nguyen Duy Minh, a Literature student, an author who won the Can Tho City Poetry Contest, and was admitted to the City Writers Association in the middle of this year, in this program. Duy Minh listened attentively and also asked questions to interact with poet Tran Dang Khoa. Duy Minh said: “The exchange program is very useful and necessary for us Literature students. We not only get to understand the author and his work, but also get to love literature.”
The exchange part of the program was very lively with students asking questions to poet Tran Dang Khoa, forcing him to come down to the audience to listen and answer. Le Khanh Huy, a student majoring in Literature, shared that he had studied and read many of his poems many times. The feeling of standing next to him, interacting and listening to him tell stories about those works was very interesting. Thanks to that, he felt more in love with literature and his field of study.
From the lecture hall to literature, the journey is guided through a program of academic exchange.
