In response to press reports of serious deterioration at some piers of the Lo River bridge (Phu Tho province), the Ministry of Construction has requested Phu Tho province to urgently review, inspect and take measures to ensure safety for the project and people.
According to the Ministry of Construction, some concrete pillars of the Lo River Bridge have exposed load-bearing steel, which could affect the safety of the structure. The People's Committee of Phu Tho province needs to assign the Department of Construction to inspect the current situation and request the unit managing and exploiting the project to conduct quality inspection.
In case of detecting damage that may cause unsafety, the authorities need to immediately apply measures such as limiting the use of the bridge, isolating the dangerous area, and making emergency repairs.
At the same time, Phu Tho province needs to develop and adjust appropriate traffic plans to ensure safety for people and vehicles passing through this area. The results of the implementation must be reported to the Ministry of Construction before November 15.
The Ministry of Construction also assigned the State Appraisal Department of Construction Quality to coordinate with the Department of Construction of Phu Tho province to organize inspection and assessment of the bridge's load-bearing capacity; at the same time assigned the Vietnam Road Administration to guide and coordinate with localities in controlling traffic, dividing traffic and guiding vehicles through the two ends of the bridge.
The Department of Construction of Phu Tho province has announced a ban on cars traveling across the Lo River Bridge and only allows 2-3 wheeled motorbikes, scooters (including electric motorbikes), rudimentary road vehicles and traffic participants to cross the bridge.
Vehicles traveling across Lo River Bridge must travel at a maximum speed of no more than 20km/h and must not stop or park on the bridge.
