Nguyen Quy Nhieu and Huynh Van Tai were arrested after a period of hiding.
According to the case file, the patrol team consisted of the following forces: Police, military and border guards of Son Hai commune, Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province (now Son Hai commune, An Giang province) organized patrols to ensure security and order at sea.
At about 3:40 p.m. on January 1, 2025, the patrol team arrived at the area near Hon Da Bac and discovered about 40 boats and barges gathered at anchor. Among them, Huynh Van Tai and a group of friends were having a drinking party on the boat. Hearing that there was a border guard boat, Tai's group weighed anchor and approached the patrol team's boat, then cursed the patrol force.
The patrol team informed the Hon Chong Port Border Guard Station to send support forces. When they heard that support forces were coming, Tai's group untied the patrol boat's rope and quickly steered the boat away. After the case was opened and the accused was prosecuted, Huynh Van Tai fled the area.
On September 5, 2025, the An Giang Provincial Police Investigation Agency issued a wanted notice for Huynh Van Tai for the crime of "Resisting a person on official duty". After a period of hiding, on the morning of September 19, 2025, Tai was arrested while hiding in Ho Chi Minh City.
Previously, on January 24, 2024, taking advantage of the time when Ms. VTXĐ, residing in Ham Ninh commune, Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province (now Phu Quoc special zone) was away from home, Nguyen Quy Nhieu cut the door lock and broke into the house to steal many properties, with a total value of over 45 million VND.
On August 14, 2025, the An Giang Provincial Police Investigation Agency issued a wanted notice for Nhieu for the crime of "Theft of property". On the afternoon of September 17, 2025, while Nhieu was hiding in Rach Gia ward, he was arrested by detectives from the An Giang Provincial Police Investigation Agency Office.
