Doctors, pharmacists, and medical staff are not allowed to advertise food.

(Chinhphu.vn) – The Department of Food Safety, Ministry of Health requires review, inspection, handling according to authority or recommending competent authorities for doctors, pharmacists, medical staff (including those who have retired) if there are violations in food advertising.

Doctors, pharmacists, and medical staff are not allowed to advertise food.

According to the leader of the Food Safety Department, there is currently a situation where some doctors, pharmacists, and medical staff participate in advertising food and functional foods, causing confusion for users.

According to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 27 of Decree 15/2018/ND-CP of the Government detailing the implementation of a number of articles of the Law on Food Safety, it is prohibited to use images, equipment, costumes, names, correspondence of medical units, facilities, doctors, pharmacists, medical staff, thank you letters from patients, articles of doctors, pharmacists, medical staff to advertise food .

Thus, some doctors, pharmacists, and medical staff participating in advertising food and functional foods are violating the law, the Food Safety Department emphasized.

Implementing Directive No. 17/CT-TTg dated May 9, 2017 of the Prime Minister on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management and creating a strong change in food advertising activities, limiting excessive advertising, advertising without content assessment, providing false information about food products to consumers, the Ministry of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 2310/BYT-ATTP dated April 17, 2025 requesting hospitals, institutes, universities, medical and pharmaceutical colleges; associations and unions related to food; Vietnam Medical Association to notify all cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers (including retired workers) about the above situation.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health proposes to review, inspect, and handle according to authority or recommend competent authorities to handle if there are violations.

Recently, many doctors and pharmacists have participated in advertising and introducing fake functional food and milk products, causing many people to be upset.

Prime Minister directs handling of fake milk production and distribution case

Regarding the recent discovery by authorities of a number of businesses, organizations, and individuals producing, advertising, and distributing many types of fake milk, today (April 17), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Official Dispatch No. 40/CD-TTG, requesting the Ministry of Public Security to speed up the investigation, promptly draw conclusions on the case of production and trade of fake milk to inform consumers and bring violators to trial in accordance with the law.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade strengthens market management, promptly detects, prevents, and strictly handles acts of producing and trading fake food, including fake milk.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism directs the organization to review and handle violations in food advertising activities in the press, on the internet, and in publications according to the provisions of law.

The Ministry of Health shall preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant ministries and agencies to review regulations on ensuring food safety for dairy products and take appropriate measures, proposing amendments to current regulations if necessary.

People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities focus on directing the implementation of review and inspection of compliance with regulations on ensuring food safety of dairy products in the area, strictly handling violations in accordance with regulations.
