Bamboo Airways stops flying to Con Dao from April

VnExpressVnExpress23/02/2024

Bamboo Airways will stop flying from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao from April after returning three Embraer E190 regional jets.

In a statement released this morning, Bamboo Airways said it had reached an agreement to terminate the lease of three Embraer E190 aircraft early after the winter flight schedule ends at the end of March. This move is in line with the restructuring plan that the airline reported to the Government late last year.

After returning these regional jets, the airline will stop operating all or part of the routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao, Hue and from Hanoi to Dong Hoi.

This is not the first time Bamboo Airways has closed its domestic routes. Since the end of last year, the airline has reduced the frequency or stopped operating some low-efficiency routes, such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc or Hanoi - Ca Mau.

For international routes, the private airline has stopped its entire flight network after ceasing operations of its wide-body Boeing B787 fleet.

Since September 2020, Bamboo Airways has been the first airline to operate direct flights from Hanoi to Con Dao with Embraer E190 aircraft. Previously, due to the short take-off/landing runway, only Vietnam Airlines and VASCO operated at this airport using ATR72 aircraft from Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. In addition to Con Dao, the airline has used Embraer E190 to operate at airports with short runways such as Dien Bien, Ca Mau, or some niche flights to Dong Hoi, Rach Gia.

Also according to the restructuring strategy, the fleet of this private airline will have 8 narrow-body A320/A321 aircraft from April. The airline plans to increase to 12-15 of the same type by the end of this year if financial and market conditions are favorable.

In addition, to save costs, the airline also proactively operates passenger services at Tan Son Nhat airport from March and Noi Bai a month later.

Bamboo Airways also said it will continue to restructure its operations, workforce, and technology to improve business metrics, increase revenue, save costs, and maintain its strengths in culture, service quality, and on-time performance. This is the foundation for the airline to further develop its domestic flight network and resume international flights from 2025.
