According to the Hanoi Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, in the 2025 Spring crop, the city will continue to direct the cultivation of pure quality rice, accounting for about 82% of the total area. In particular, focusing on some main varieties such as: J02, TBR225, Dai Thom 8, VRN 20, TBR 279...

In addition, Hanoi will also cultivate the varieties of sticky rice 87, sticky rice 97, sticky rice A Sao... and herbal rice varieties. Interspersed with that is a group of high-yield pure rice varieties (accounting for about 16 - 17% of the area), focusing on some main varieties such as Thien Uu 8, TBR45, HD11... The rest is a group of hybrid rice varieties (Nhi Uu 838, TH3-5, TH3-3...).

With the concentrated sowing season from January 20 to February 3, 2025, the agricultural sector is thoroughly preparing for water intake. Head of the Hanoi Department of Irrigation and Disaster Prevention and Control Nguyen Duy Du said that based on Document No. 9193/TB-BNN-TL of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , the unit has advised the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to issue a directive document.

Currently, Hanoi's irrigation enterprises have basically completed the maintenance of irrigation works and dredging, clearing the flow, removing blockages, moving dredging construction equipment out of the water system, especially at water intake gates and main canal systems; ensuring that water intake equipment is in good condition to be ready for the most effective operation.

Chairman of Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited Tran Thanh Toan said that the unit has developed a specific water intake plan for each locality and each system of works. In the coming days, it will focus on operating all existing works and field works to urgently take water for the 2025 Spring rice planting season, ensuring compliance with the schedule of increased water discharge from hydroelectric reservoirs of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

People in some localities in Hanoi have started sowing rice seedlings for spring rice production.

Avoid water loss

According to the 2025 Spring crop production plan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Manh Phuong noted that for the districts and towns of Son Tay, Phuc Tho, Thach That, and Quoc Oai in the basin of Phu Sa pumping station, it is necessary to make the most of the increased discharge water from hydroelectric reservoirs; prepare conditions to pump and store water into the canal system, ponds, and low-lying areas right from Phase 1.

For areas with difficult water resources in Ba Vi district in the basin of Trung Ha pumping station, it is necessary to regularly inform about the water resources situation, propagate and mobilize people to use water economically and effectively, and avoid wasting water.

“The spring rice planting season will be completed in February 2025, so localities need to focus on urging people to proactively get water into their fields and plant on time…” - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Manh Phuong emphasized.

To ensure the progress of water intake for the entire Northern Midlands and Delta region, Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Hong Khanh requested Hanoi and other provinces and cities to continue to closely monitor information related to water resources, so that as soon as water resources allow, they can organize the operation of irrigation works to take water. Increase maximum water storage in the system of main canals, ponds, lagoons, low-lying areas and bring water to the fields to serve land preparation and planting.

Hanoi and other provinces and cities also need to urgently mobilize and guide people to prepare the land early to retain water in the fields; organize the reinforcement of embankments and plot embankments to avoid leakage, loss and waste of water. Prioritize water supply to areas with difficult water sources.

Representatives of the Department of Irrigation also requested localities to arrange permanent forces at irrigation works during the entire time of water collection, ensuring effective and safe water collection. At the same time, coordinate with electricity agencies to ensure stable power supply for pumping stations during the entire time of water collection for planting.

 

According to Document No. 9193/TB-BNN-TL of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announcing the water intake schedule for the 2025 Spring rice crop in the Northern Midlands and Delta, the first water intake period will start from 0:00 on January 12 to 24:00 on January 16, 2025 (5 days). Vietnam Electricity Group will operate hydropower plants to maintain the water level at the Hanoi hydrological station at an average of about 1.7m.
