Currently, the province has 5 products protected by geographical indications, including: Quang Tri pepper, Quang Tri green tea, Tuyen Hoa hill chicken, Quan Hau oysters and Khe Sanh coffee.
The product “Quang Tri Pepper” was granted a geographical indication since 2014 (expanded in 2018), protecting 3 types of products: black pepper, white pepper (white pepper) and pepper powder in the districts: Vinh Linh, Cam Lo, Gio Linh and Huong Hoa (old). Thanks to the geographical indication, Quang Tri pepper has increased its selling price and strengthened the trust of export partners. The economic efficiency of Quang Tri pepper is demonstrated by maintaining high quality and increasing competitiveness compared to pepper outside the protected area.
Director of Vinh Linh Pepper Production and Trading Cooperative Le Tan Tuu said that thanks to the geographical indication "Quang Tri Pepper", the cooperative's pepper is sold at a higher and more stable price than before. In the past, pepper was produced and sold spontaneously, without quality control, depending on traders. Since the product has been protected by geographical indication, people have had to follow stricter production processes, but in return, businesses prioritize purchasing at better prices.

In 2023, the province will have 2 more protected products, including: Quang Tri Che Vang (associated with La Vang Holy Land), protecting 3 types of processing: dry tea, tea extract and instant tea; "Tuyen Hoa Hill Chicken", protecting live chickens (breeding chickens and commercial chickens) using native chicken breeds raised on the hills of Tuyen Hoa district (old). Particularly, Che Vang products after being protected by CDDL will benefit from deep processing and affirm their quality characteristics, increasing economic value per hectare of land. Before CDDL, the selling price of raw Che Vang was stable at about 10,000 VND/kg. With a yield of about 20 tons/ha/year, each hectare of Che Vang can generate an income of about 200 million VND per year, which is considered to be quite economically efficient compared to many other crops in the hilly areas. In particular, after successfully obtaining geographical indication protection, Quang Tri's vằng tea continues to increase in value through deep processing with vằng tea extract and instant vằng tea products.
The two newest products to be certified in 2025 include: Quan Hau Oyster, protecting oysters grown and exploited on the Nhat Le River in the Quan Hau area; Khe Sanh Coffee, protecting a set of green coffee products, roasted coffee beans (mainly Arabica coffee) grown in the communes of Huong Phung, Khe Sanh, Tan Lap, and A Doi.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hong Phuong, geographical indications have protected the quality and reputation of local agricultural products, creating confidence for consumers and increasing the value of agricultural products. However, although the implementation of geographical indication protection has achieved initial results, it is still not commensurate with the current agricultural potential of the province. In addition to protected products, the province has also actively implemented provincial-level science and technology tasks to build and establish geographical indication rights for other potential agricultural products such as "Hai Lang Clean Rice", "Hai Phu K4 Orange", "Quang Tri Organic Rice"...
In the coming time, to build and develop more agricultural products recognized for geographical indication protection, the province will focus on strategic solutions, such as: Completing the quality management and control system through the implementation of traceability using growing area codes and QR codes to make the origin and quality of products transparent throughout the value chain; promoting value chain linkage by supporting tight production-processing-consumption models, along with interest rate support policies for associated enterprises, consuming geographical indication products; improving capacity for producers through capital support and technology transfer on new varieties, organic farming methods and encouraging the application of international standards (GAP, EUDR) to be ready for export.
