A full account of the incident where Indonesian players chased and attacked the referee, leading to a fistfight between the two teams.

A mass brawl occurred during a Liga 2 (Indonesia's second division) match on the evening of January 11th. The Deltras and Persibo Bojonegoro teams were playing at the Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo province. The winning team would advance to the next round.

The incident stemmed from the equalizer scored by the visiting team Persibo in the final minute of added time. After Deltras committed a foul, their opponents took a quick free kick and scored. The referee awarded the goal.

The home team protested vehemently, arguing that Persibo was not allowed to take a quick free kick in that situation. Furthermore, the visiting team's player was offside before scoring, and slow-motion replays confirmed this. However, the referee did not change his decision.

Spectators threw bottles onto the pitch. Deltras players surrounded the main referee and his assistants. Some members of the home team lost their temper and attempted to assault the referee. The main referee was chased and attacked, having to run to the security area for protection.

The incident didn't end there. A member of the Deltras coaching staff suddenly rushed out and punched a Persibo player in the face. Players from both teams then started fighting. Surprisingly, there was no security intervention. Fortunately, there was no sign of unruly fans in the stands joining in the riot.

The chaos only ended when the Persibo players and referee ran into the locker room. The match remained suspended as the referee had not yet blown the whistle to end the second half. The Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) has not yet taken any action following the incident.
