
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lieutenant General Tri Budi Utomo, Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ministry of Defence, stated that AUMX-2 is not merely a naval exercise, but also an opportunity for the navies of participating countries to build trust and understanding, share knowledge, and enhance their ability to work together. Through these activities, the countries affirm their shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Rear Admiral Katie F. Sheldon, Deputy Commander of the 7th Fleet, Indo- Pacific Command, U.S. Navy, affirmed the U.S. commitment to cooperating with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), supporting ASEAN's central role, and jointly promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The participating countries aim to promote a stronger, safer, and more prosperous ASEAN, including cooperation in security against transnational crime, terrorism, and extremism; disaster management; humanitarian assistance; peacekeeping operations; and maritime security and stability.
From December 9-13, the ASEAN-US Maritime Exercise included a variety of diverse activities, including maritime drills, formation maneuvering; simple signal and communication exercises, hand flags, signal flags, and lights; ship survivability exercises; and maritime search and rescue and first aid exercises. In addition, there were activities such as situational handling workshops, expert seminars, sports exchanges, and cultural performances.
Vietnam fully participated in all aspects and activities of the exercise aimed at improving the organizational, command, and coordination capabilities, as well as the operational proficiency of officers and soldiers in mastering weapons and technical equipment, and accumulating experience in participating in and organizing international events.
Colonel Pham Tien Dung, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 2nd Naval Region, stated that participating in these activities will help enhance the operational coordination capabilities and foreign relations of the Vietnamese Navy; working with other countries to be ready to handle situations at sea within permissible limits, as well as international cooperation to improve the skills of the Vietnamese Navy and sailors in international cooperation in various fields.
Rear Admiral Nguyen Thien Quan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People's Navy, emphasized that the Vietnam People's Navy is participating in this exercise with a high sense of responsibility, working with ASEAN countries and the United States to promote peace, stability, friendship, and development in the Asia-Pacific region in general and ASEAN with the United States in particular, to create strategic trust for mutual development.
Participating in this activity also affirms the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralism and diversification, and at the same time demonstrates that Vietnam is an active and responsible member in the contents proposed by the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting and ASEAN Plus (ADMM+).
