On the opening day of the 33rd SEA Games, the Thai sports delegation won 19 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals. After this explosive performance, host nation Thailand quickly pulled ahead of the other participating delegations.
Indonesia is in second place overall. By the end of the competition day on December 10th, the Indonesian team had surged ahead to "pocket" a total of 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals. Singapore, with 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals, is temporarily ranked third.
On December 10th, the Vietnamese sports delegation had a rather slow start, winning only 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 16 bronze medals. Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong (women's 500m canoeing), the team creative team (Taekwondo), Tran Hung Nguyen (men's 200m individual medley, swimming), and Nguyen Van Dung (petanque) were the gold medalists for Vietnam.
Following closely behind are the sports delegations from Myanmar, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Notably, the Laotian sports delegation won its first gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games. Meanwhile, Brunei secured a silver medal and Timor Leste a bronze. Thus, all sports delegations at the 33rd SEA Games have won medals.
The 33rd SEA Games will take place from December 9 to 20 at three main venues: Chonburi, Bangkok and Songkhla. This Games is expected to have about 9,366 athletes participating, competing in 50 sports.
SEA Games 33 will have a total of 574 sets of medals awarded, 10 sets less than the last SEA Games.
