Storm No. 8 moves into mainland China, Hai Phong has thunderstorms

Storm No. 8 is currently about 240 km East Southeast of Hong Kong (China).

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4:00 a.m. on September 19, the center of storm No. 8 was at about 21.5 degrees North latitude, 116.1 degrees East longitude, in the northern sea area of ​​the North East Sea, about 240 km East Southeast of Hong Kong (China).

The strongest wind near the storm center is level 8 - 9 (62-88 km/h), gusting to level 11. The storm moves northwest at a speed of about 15 km/h.

It is forecasted that by 4 p.m. the same day, the storm's center will be at about 22.6 degrees North latitude; 115 degrees East longitude, on the southern coastal area of ​​Guangdong province (China), maintaining a level 8-9 intensity, gusting to level 11. By the morning of September 20, the storm will make landfall in the southern part of Guangdong province, gradually weakening into a tropical depression, then continue to move deeper inland and gradually dissipate.

Due to the influence of the storm circulation, on the day and night of September 19, the eastern sea area of ​​the North East Sea, the central and southern East Sea (including the Truong Sa sea area), the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from South Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Particularly in the northern part of the East Sea, there will be strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 9; in the area near the storm's eye, there will be strong winds of level 8-9, gusting to level 11, waves 3-5m high, and very rough seas. Ships operating in the danger zone are at risk of being affected by strong winds, big waves, and whirlwinds.

On land, the Northern region has scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places, while in Southern Phu Tho , the plains and coastal areas there are scattered showers and thunderstorms.

It is forecasted that from early morning to afternoon of September 19, the coastal areas of the North will have scattered showers and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 10 - 30 mm, in some places over 60 mm.

Thunderstorms may produce tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains may cause flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides in mountainous areas, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Localities, especially coastal areas, need to closely monitor storm developments and prepare response plans to ensure safety for people and production activities.

Hai Phong area: Radar images show that convective clouds are developing in Hai An ward of Hai Phong city. In addition, convective clouds from Quang Ninh and the Gulf of Tonkin are moving towards Hai Phong city.

It is forecasted that in the current period to the next 3 hours, convective clouds may move in and cause thunderstorms in the above areas and the following neighboring communes and wards: Kien An, Hung Dao, Duong Kinh, An Hung, An Khanh, An Quang, An Truong, An Lao, Kien Thuy, Kien Minh, Kien Hai, Kien Hung, Nghi Duong, Quyet Thang, Tien Lang, Tan Minh, Tien Minh, Chan Hung, Hung Thang, Vinh Bao, Nguyen Binh Khiem, Vinh Am, Vinh Hai, Vinh Hoa, Vinh Thinh, Vinh Thuan, Do Son and neighboring communes/wards.

During thunderstorms, be on guard against tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind that can break trees, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure, endangering human lives, and endangering farming activities and ships at sea.
